I'm a bit concerned about the number of saves he makes outside the box. The guy's a maverick.

I wonder. One of Reina's strengths.is his effectiveness in coming out of the area to close opposition players down. The above might suggest that in Mignolet we have someone who can replicate that.

I thought it was a whoosh.... But it was JJ.... so I didn't think he'd fall for it

This is Reina's stats for comparison

Reina's bottom right corner is a clear weakness.. But could is also be down to a lack of defensive solidarity on that side, assuming that a majority of these are someone coming in behind Johnson/ Skrtel and boshing them in the near post?

Shots coming from inside the area on the right side of the frame of the goal - 13 saves, 4 goals (76% saved)
Shots coming from inside the area on the left side of the frame of the goal - 6 saves, 9 goals (40% saved)
Shots from the middle (facing the goal frame) - 5 saves, 13 goals (28% saved)
Shots from outside the penalty area - 5 goals, 19 saves (79% saved)

It's safe to assume that a big % of shots coming from Reina's left ended up in that bottom RH corner. Whereas shots coming from right to left usually got saved. A shot coming from Enrique's flank was almost twice as likely to result in a goal than a shot from Johnson's flank.

Those stats are irrelevant, Simon was playing in a piss poor side with a awful defence. Pepe was playing in a half decent side with a half decent defence. Simon is bound to save more shots, as he'll have had more opportunities to save them.

Mignolet has a lot of goals conceded right down the middle. I wonder what's that about. Does he have a tendency to overcommit by any chance? Reina normally stands until the last moment and any shot down the middle usually is right at him.

Proficiat @SMignolet met uw transfer!!

Flemish! I want to hear it in Flemish!!

From a Sunderland Journo:

He's a bright guy, speaks five languages and is studying a masters after completing a degree in political science while at Sunderland. He's also humble. He still drives the same Audi as when he first joined Sunderland three years ago.

Could include penalties?

Overcommit????

The guy keeps rushing out of the box ... It's hardly surprising they just lob down the middle over him.
