In the last two games, (in my opinion) Pepe Reina has been at fault for conceding two goals. Should he be benched? Or should Brendan Rodgers have faith in a goalkeeper who has been a rock for us in the past?

A good old fashioned poll to get the opinions on this.

Yes if we had anyone half decent to come in for him. We don't unfortunately. Which is a fekin enormous mystery since we've bought 43 keepers in the last few years!

Ten people want Brad Jones as our first choice keeper, have we turned into Derby County overnight?

Jaysus we spunked a lot of money on shit back up keepers for the last 8 years.

He needs a world class coach to help him regain the focus and discipline he used to have, and make the most of the great ability that's still there. And that coach is available and living nearby.

Valero. Okay, I don't know enough about goalkeeping coaches to say he's world class, but he's trusted by Reina, was very effective when he was here and would be a great reinvigorating presence.

I'm prob Quiffing (not read any posts at all) but it would be cheaper to be that gk coach that reina worships than a new keeper.

Gotta be worth a shot.

Voted No because He will be back to his best hopefully in the next game. He is not one to dwell on his past mistakes which was always the issue with every goal-keeper we had before him going back to David James. Strong character and I look forward to the day he does that thing for which he does after Spain win a tournament !!! PEPE FOREVER !!!

Reina will be fine. We will start to click and there are goals in this team even without a poacher/finisher in the squad.

Give it 15 league games and judge us after that - on performances thereafter, and not on league position.

Eerieely Hodgson-esque idea

I agree though

Deffo bench him, it doesn't matter if we think the backup is good enough. They probably won't make those same stupid mistakes Reina has been making, plus it will give reina a kick up the ass. He's not the only one I'd bench for a few games.

What's amazing to me is looking at the sheer number of keepers we've had on our books over the last few years we still have no-one even close to pushing Pepe for his place. He's gone to shit. First thing I'd do is sack Acterburg. I thought he was gone when the owners decimated the backroom staff but he's still there. Annoying.

If you bench a keeper you need to bring them back when you think they're ready and really stick with them or sell them. Souness provided a textbook guide to how not to deal with under-performing keepers - he managed to wreck three in a season without finding a solution. Benching them is a one time only tactic that is incredibly unreliable in terms of good results. It's much more prudent to work with them and improve their training.

I'd be tempted to drop him for the next game but would defo have him start against the Mancs. Could be the kick up the arse required, but could also backfire.

I'd be interested in seeing if this amazing coach can reverse the ageing process.

No need for that. Just get him back to the level of fitness, discipline and focus that even older and more mature keepers, like Friedel, reach as a matter of routine.

Don't be silly, you can't bring logic into this.

bench him!

Yes. Put Gerrard in goal. That should shake them both up.

Failing that - no. We have no-one capable of matching Pepe even on a bad day.

We should sign one of these keepers that keep having MoM performances against us.

If he doesn't improve significantly this season then we should be looking to replace next summer. But no to dropping him now. As said, the backups are muck.

First thing I would do is sack Acterburg. Worse than Corrigan was.
God i remember Corrigan when i used to watch the reserves down in Haig Avenue.

Ruined many a good potential keepers nerves/promise.

Remember Paul Harrison and Matthew Parry? Both looked like they could be stars til he got near them.
