Yeah, just look at Barca.

Barcelona were just stupid for giving Messi that contract to begin with. I get all the records he's achieved, he's arguably the GOAT. However €2.5m a week is too much by a long stretch.

Then all the fringe players also get paid too much.

Those Lyon fans should thank us by handing over Houssem Aouar
Does Klopp want Aouar? I was watching his best clips, and its hard to make conclusive statement from clips, but the kid can tackle, dribble, pass and has a keen eye for goal. He could be what we thought Ox was going to be.

if anything I would say that Aouar has the potential of a Zidane. You see the way I see it - if we are turning Keita into a Gini replica we need some sort of creative type tackler in midfield who has proved it against top sides, and certainly Aouar has proved that in the CL against some top teams (City being one of them). Plus you mention he can tackle and from what I have seen his defensive awareness is also good. Therefore he is a player who can do that box to box stuff and bring/combine with our front players. if we cannot get Traore (note I have no preference for him) then we should at least see if Lyon are willing. Also if we only want to make a single signing then I would consider Aouar as the one to get rather than get purely defensive or purely attacking player. If we get Traore then we also need a Bissouma type to support in the absence of Fab.

Right now my view is that our midfield options form an attacking / creative point of view are a bit dull potentially inconsistent and injury prone. We need some spice in that midfield. I do not see Elliot as a midfield option - I see him developing into a number 10, and as gifted as he is - he lacks experience. I would love to see more of Curtis but I think Klopp just won't play him enough for whatever reason - and unjustifiably because last season he was without doubt the best midfielder we had available for the longest period that made things happen. Yes he made a mistake in the WBA home game but that aside - he was brilliant in keeping the ball and breaking through the opposition lines.

Injured and a bit positionless?

If that was your overriding feeling when he (Ox) transferred then you should join player recruitment. I think most of us questioned his fitness maintainability, but appreciated we needed someone making runs through the middle and thought Ox as it.

So, you were about him being injured. While the fact Chelsea were trying to sign him as a wingback, Arsenal as a winger mostly and us as a central midfielder didn't hint at a bit positionles...

He wanted to play through the middle, that's where he said his best position was. We didn't think he was going to be almost Andy Caroll disappointing
