From SSN...wonder if they can be persuaded to take them both???

Brazilian midfielder on Spanish side's radar...

..Sevilla are reportedly weighing up a January move for Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva.

Reports emanating from Spain have claimed Sevilla have targeted a move for Lucas as they look to bolster their squad options in the January transfer window.

Sevilla are in the market for a new midfielder after Tiberio Guarente was ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.

Sevilla were linked with Lucas' team-mate Christian Poulsen earlier this month, but it appears the Brazil international is now on their list of targets.

Lucas' future at Anfield has been the subject of speculation for some time with the South American failing to hold down a regular place in the side.

Sevilla are believed to have travelled to England to sound out the possibility of the move and are waiting to find out Liverpool's response.

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson could be tempted to cash in on Lucas to raise funds for his own transfer plans in the New Year.

Since when has he failed to 'hold down a regular place in the side'?

He's an almost ever present.

I'd be all for this if it didn't mean Poulsen will be playing every game instead. Should have sold Mucas when we had a good midfield.

It would seem that Brendan's theory of Lucas being the luckiest guy in football is quite true. I'm convinced he's going take over from Gerrard as captain and play for us until he retires.

Lucas is nowhere near as bad as being played out of position has made him look.

I'm quietly confident that he'd do well in la liga providing he was played in a more attacking role

Some sort of "2 for 1" deal seems in order. Buy Lucas and we'll throw in Poulsen. Play hardball and they can have roy as well.

I wouldn't sell Lucas until the summer. Poulsen can get to fuck in january. But we need the players we got from now and until may.

Didnt Poulson play for Sevilla several years ago??

Seems a bit odd that they would be interested considering the likely pricetag being around 6 million.

surely they would be better off doing what they always do... taking advantage of their slack immigration laws and bringing in south American talent?

I would be shocked if we got 5 million for Poulsen. He'd go for 2 million. 3 million at best....we should take the loss and get rid of him from the wage bill anyway. What is the point of a useless player?

We have wasted millions on a player yet again. It's like we are cursed. I think i'd jump off a bridge if we make a bargain buy who turns out to be actually quite good.

Bellamy was the last such player i can think off, but he was already a known player and we just made use of a clause in his contract.

I don't believe I'm saying this but.....I think Lucas has shown signs of improvement lately.

He has, but that's partly because we see that Poulsen's worse.

No, that's not it at all - I think he's genuinely improving

Santos are ready to launch a January bid for Liverpool midfielder Lucas.

The Brazil international has struggled to settle at Liverpool and has often come in for criticism from fans for his performances.

However, his form of late has encouraged manager Roy Hodgson to stick with him at least until the end of the season.

That resolve will be put to the test though by ambitious Santos who want to build a strong squad ahead of the Copa Libertadores next year.

They have just signed former Manchester City midfielder Elano from Galatasaray for £2.4m and are sending a delegation to Liverpool in the coming weeks to discuss a potential deal for Lucas.

Sevilla and West Ham have already shown interest in the 23-year-old and could outbid Santos for a player who Liverpool valued at £8m last season.

But the prospect of a return home could be timely during a difficult season at Anfield.

One day after announcing the return of Elano, the Santos soccer team expressed their interest in midfielder Lucas on Wednesday.

The team's project in focused on creating the ideal team to win the 2011 Libertadores Cup.

A delegation of Santos representatives recently traveled to Istanbul, Turkey, to negotiate the purchase of 29-year-old midfielder Elano from Galatasaray SK.

Estimated at 2.9 million Euros, Santos reclaimed athlete. After a six year absence, the talented star and member of the Brazilian national soccer team will make his return to Brazil for the 2011 season. He is expected to sign a three-year contract.

As for Lucas, the 23-year-old currently belongs to the English club Liverpool FC. Santos first initiated talks with Lucas in July, discussing a possible salary. However, the English club discontinued its interest as head coach Roy Hodgson began to use the player more often.

Santos is confident that they can use the same model of negotiations presented in the Galatasaray SK deal with Liverpool FC, adding the last piece of the puzzle for a dominant midfield.

Club president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro declared that his goal is to create a strong team and achieve the goal of winning the Libertadores Cup.

Santos won the tournament in back-to-back years: 1962 and 1963. In the later, the team won the tournament undefeated.

The ideal midfield, as previously imagined by former head coach Dorival Junior, consists of Arouca, Lucas, Elano and Paulo Henrique Ganso.

Ganso is expected to fully recover from his right knee injury by March, just in time for the first round of the Libertadores Cup.

There's no doubt he's looking a much better player, though he hadn't set a particularly high standard to beat. He's having a Biscan career trajectory I'd say.

He'll end up a cult hero at this rate. I said CULT Bren.
