Yes, Carra has been shit this year but we need him to rebound badly and I'm not convinced Skrtel is the better option (though I don't think he's as shit as some say). Aurelio over Insua just for experience. Plus, Aurelio will eventually get crocked and Insua will be back in there anyway. Aquilani and Gerrard both in central midfield, with Aquilani slightly more advanced. Yossi deserves to play but Aquilani is the man threading through balls to Torres in this scheme. Kuyt has the workrate on the right and can support Torres as well. Riera for balance and because he's not Babel or Dossena.

Honestly the squad is so bad you start making a lineup and you can't put players in positions that they are best at. So i'll rescind my statement a little bit. I think the problem we have is replaced two defensively capable players in Alonso and Arbeloa with attacking players in Johnson and Aquilani. And a defensive genius in Hyypia with a side not in the Greek.
Kelly needs to start playing soon imo. We need to know if he has it because it determines a lot of our focus in this season. Kelly is to be replaced with Aurelio if he can't hack it/is needed in the center because he is too good 🙂 ; its an experiment.
And I am sticking with Babel on the right wing because he is fast can beat a man has a shot and most importantly a fantastic cross on his right foot with nothing on his left side. So I'll change my formation to

Yet he doesn't have a shot on the right side... his shots come from cutting in.

not if he shoots like he did against lyon, he'd have to watch the goals that Ronaldo scored cutting in from the right side. But for now I'll settle for him cutting to the baseline and putting the ball in a dangerous area consistently so we can start putting people in the box knowing the ball is going to get delivered not passed backwards or mis controlled out of bounds a la Kuyt or held onto for god knows how long by Yossi.

Other than I think perhaps Aquilani should be playing further forward than Gerrard (we need to stop having such a bypassable midfield), same as mine. Yay.
