"The Serbian Snake". A striker with pace and a good goalscoring ratio. Might be worth a punt.

Standard Liege striker Milan Jovanovic has revealed that Liverpool are battling AC Milan for his signature and that another big European club have also made contact.

The 28-year-old forward is out of contract with Les Rouches at the end of the season and is fully expected to move on a free during the summer with Rafael Benitez monitoring the situation.

Voted the Jupiler League’s Player of the Year for 2009, Jovanovic played a major role in his side’s second consecutive league title last season and has been Standard’s stand out player this term, notching 10 goals in 19 appearances.

"News that I have already said yes to AC Milan are not correct," Jovanovic is reported to have said this week. "I am still waiting, I haven't decided.

"Also because AC Milan are not the only club interested in me. There is also Liverpool and another big European club.

"I repeat - my options are still very open."

Liverpool have been linked with a number of possible attacking recruits in recent weeks and with news of Fernando Torres’ latest injury setback it is expected that Rafael Benitez will act quickly to secure back-up.

Bordeaux’s Marouane Chamakh is another possible target, while former Liverpool forward Emile Heskey has also been touted as a short-term option for the Anfield outfit.

I thought that said "contract" and was hoping that a manila envelope with a picture of Lucarse and some cash had been handed over.

Ha, good one Brendan.
You never looked into the going rate for a sniper to travel up to Anfield on a match day, no?
They charge by the bullet I think.

He might do you a three for the price of two if things are slow, what with the recession and all.

So basically he's been informed that we've scouted him a couple of times, and now he is trying to big up his transfer so he can get a better signing on fee.

Liverpool have locked horns with AC Milan to secure the services of Standard Liege's Milan Jovanovic, according to That Paper I wouldn't wipe my arse with

The sought-after Serb had previously revealed the Reds' interest in luring him to England, while also explaining that he had been courted by the San Siro outfit.

Liege appear to be willing to dispose of their player before his contract runs out in the summer, and Merseyside is said to be smelling of a £2.5 million signing-on fee.

A source from Standard allegedly said: "It looks like it's 50-50 between Liverpool and AC Milan for Jovanovic.

"There are many other clubs but those two are ahead of the rest.

"It seems he will make a decision very soon."

There have also been reports claiming that the 28-year-old may have signed a pre-conractual agreement with Liverpool.

Milan Jovanovic's representatives have held talks with Liverpool, skysports.com understands.

The Standard Liege star is out-of-contract in the summer and has made it clear he intends to take up the option of a Bosman transfer.

Valencia had hoped to land him in January, but now Jovanovic is holding talks with a number of interested parties.

AC Milan and Atletico Madrid are among the sides keen to seal a deal and are also believed to have discussed terms.

Now Liverpool have met with the Serbian's representatives with a view to bringing him to Anfield in the summer.

Despite holding talks this week, Jovanovic is unlikely to give Liverpool or any of his suitors a decision this month.

The 28-year-old, who can play on the left or up front, could even wait until after the World Cup - where he will be featuring for Serbia.

Yes, well Insua is having a bad time of it.

He's 28, playing in Belgium, and will be out of contract in the Summer.

Going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing he's probably not brilliant.

Milan Jovanovic. Deserves his own thread.

Not sure if there's already a thread about this chump, but this'll be a better one anyway so hey-ho.

Liverpool representatives met with Milan Jovanovic yesterday to discuss a possible move to Anfield.

Reports in the Belgian media confirmed that a meeting took place between the two parties, with Liverpool attempting to steal a march on AC Milan, who are also believed to be chasing the Standard Liege striker.

Jovanovic's contract with the Belgian champions comes to an end this summer, and Les Rouches may look to cash in during the January window rather than risk losing him on a free when the summer window opens.

The 28-year-old had spells with Shakhtar Donetsk and Lokomotiv Moscow before making the switch to Liege in 2006. Since then, Jovanovic has scored 52 league goals in 107 appearances, forcing his way into the Serbian national side in 2007.

The forward is believed to have held preliminary talks with Rafa Benitez before coming to England for further discussions yesterday. He is ready to make his mark in Europe after turning down a move to Real Madrid last term in a bid to gain more first-team experience.

Now, a battle between the Reds and Rossoneri appears to be developing, with Benitez battling to add another striker to the ranks at Anfield.

"We will see if we can do something more in this window. If we cannot we will stick together for the next challenge," said the Spanish boss at a press conference yesterday.

I think they all had reasonable careers. Anyway, beggars cant be choosers now. IF (and that's a big if) he's wanted by Milan as well then he has to have some quality.
