As an aside from the GOAT thread, whos the best player you have seen live? Which other good players have you seen.

I saw Messi at Anfield a few years back.
I also saw Totti and Del Piero in Portugal 2004.

George Best for ManUre at West Brom one time, and Pele for Santos in a friendly at Villa Park. Neither was on spectacular form as it happens, but there were umpteen little touches of class which even a nipper like I was then could spot.

I was just thinking recently of starting a thread like this but to name the best 11 you've seen live . So as I have it in my head I'll stick it in here if you don't mind. Some are pretty obvious , others just really impressed me or I liked them .

Schmeichel

Cafu

Cannavaro - Was sitting pitch side for that game and never realised how small he was yet he won every ball in the air and was immense , just so calm aswell.

Nestor Sensini - Pretty much the same thing , he was up against a 6"3" striker yet won everything and he's hard as fuck .

Maldini

Nedved

Seedorf - I have to include him because aside from being a great player he just seems like a really down to earth top bloke .

Zidane

Messi

Batistuta

Ronaldinho

***********

Actually , I've been pretty lucky and seen lots of top players, some that most would pick ahead of the ones in that 11, players like C.Ronaldo , Henry , Rush , Barnes , Fowler , Gerrard , Kaka etc .

Then to add some more subs 🙂 :
Carragher , Roy Keane , Riquelme , Xavi , Iniesta , Hyypia, Shearer, Buffon , Del Piero , Lizarazu , Schevchenko , A.Ortega , Veron (well before he joined United and he was brilliant to watch )

Ahh i should probably stop now so the last thing I will say is that Batistuta was probably my favourite , he was a beast of a striker .

Jonny Barnes and Macca for us in the 90s plus God of course.

I saw Le Tissier a lot as I lived near Southampton, his touch was amazing to see in the flesh

I saw Celtic host Barca in the CL a few years back. Messi scored two and Henry scored an absolute belter. The Juventus team we beat in 2005 had Nedved, Del Piero, Cannavaro & Buffon. I seen Ian Rush play at Chris Hughtons testimonial game in Lansdowne Road way back, he was shit! Great to see him play all the same.

Ronaldinho when he was at PSG. Or Stevie G.

Let's do a 'best player you've played with or against' one to see if anyone's got any decent names to add. I could throw in a few good'uns.

Best was the greatest I've ever seen live. He was a freak and I don't just mean with the football. Physically he wasn't imposing but his agility and balance were other worldly - the only analogy I can make that's close to accurate would be cat like. There were a couple of times the hair on the back of the neck just stood up as you watched something that your senses said wasn't human.

Pele - only saw him once live and he was getting pretty old. The thing that struck me was that he handed out as much punishment as he ever copped. I remember Charlton took the approach that anyone who just tried to kick him out of the game was refused a hand shake at the end of it. Pele definitely didn't follow that example.

Le Tissier was up there as the most talented but damn he was lazy - something I didn't appreciate as much when watching him on the TV. The ball at his feet and he came alive but the rest of the time he largely made up the numbers.

Kenny was amazing and so was Barnes - but I guess I expected that after watching them on the box so many times.

I've seen many of the aforementioned players such as Barnes, Rush, Keane, Messi, Ronaldinho, Gerrard etc (usually at Anfield) but one of my favourites hasn't had a mention yet..............Gianfranco Zola. He was an amazing player and the memory of him being subbed at Anfield near the end of a Liverpool v Chelsea game and the standing ovation he got from all at Anfield will linger a long time.

He didn't even play that well that day (it was towards the end of his career) but it was Anfield's way of showing their appreciation to an outstanding player.

I was at the CL final in Hampden in 02 when Zidane scored that volly against Leverkusen.

Thing is, I was working in London at the time and I was sharing a flat with an Arsenal supporter, and I suggested we go to the game. He was all like... You can't do that, you just can't... and I was all like... we'll easy get in, I've never been anywhere and not got in, so we booked a flight from Gatwick to Glasgow and got up there on the morning, got drunk, ended up finding a pair of tickets off a tout, but not mad prices...Anyways, I got in the ground and thought, I know what to do... I'll phone my (bluenose) mate John and ask if he can guess where I am.. so I did, and he said 'Fuck where you are, I'm in Hampden'... which just goes to show... scousers get fucking everywhere.

Bruno Cheyrou vs Lazio 😉
[/quote] djimi traore vs charlton when he played for them. I think gave away a penalty in that game.

Havent watched any Non-Indian football live. So the greatest players I have watched live are the legends that is Baichung Bhutia and I. M. Vijayan.

I may watch my first MLS game live next month in DC where I may have the opportunities to watch legends such as Andy Najar.

I suppose Steven Gerrard is the best player I've seen in the flesh, all things considered. I saw Ian Rush with the Liverpool legends in Belfast, but in competitive footy it has to be SG.

During a lunchtime kick about at school I once chipped Micky Ingham, one time goalkeeper of Sunderland and Northern Ireland. There was stunned silence as I was shite at football. He really should have hung up his gloves then and there.
