Probably deserves a thread of it's own.
Family have released a statement through the club....................................

Liverpool Football Club is publishing the following statement on behalf of the family of Sean Cox.
As a family we have been overwhelmed and humbled by the support we have received since Sean was so badly hurt two weeks ago.
From the wonderful medical staff at the Walton Centre who continue to care for Sean to the highly dedicated officers of Merseyside Police who have assisted us from the moment we arrived, it has been a great comfort to know that we are in such good hands.
There are no words to describe the gratitude we feel to the ordinary people of Liverpool and Ireland who have taken Sean to their hearts in a way that underlines why those places have such a deserved reputation for generosity and solidarity.
Every day letters and cards arrive from this country, from Ireland and beyond. Every one of them wishes us well and the accompanying offers of support have reminded us, even in our darkest moments, that we are not walking alone.
Sean remains in a critical condition but he is a fighter and that, coupled with the medical and spiritual support he is receiving, gives us hope in our hearts and we long for the day when our husband, dad and brother returns home to Dunboyne so we can be together as a family once more.
In the meantime, we would ask that our privacy continues to be respected and when we have news we will share it at the appropriate time. Until then, all we can do is hope and pray for Sean in the knowledge that he is receiving the best possible care.
The Cox family.

Yea it's not looking good at all very sad indeed. All because of some ignorant Italian hooligans 😡

YNWA We need to win big ears even more now for him 🙂

Terribly sad.

Literally hundreds of thousands of Irish fans go over like him every season.

Awful stuff 🙁

I will ask the big Guy if he can make him better. But he´s very busy atm. So he may take a while. what with Mosul and madness and stuff.

Was in town on Sunday, forensics all over Hanover St where that Welsh lad got murdered in the early hours. What the fuck goes through the minds of these people?

Sean opened his eyes yesterday for the first time. He's still on a ventilator but doing some breathing by himself. They hope to transfer him to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin at some stage.
I was told this today by a friend who knows him through Dunboyne GAA.
Beaumont Hospital would specialize in head injuries so that all sounds very plausible

If this is true, it is better news that could have been hoped for a few weeks ago.

What happened to the two arrested spagettis? Must be different to be sentenced in UK for coward attack on an innocent football fan than to be jailed in Italy for pickpocketing tourists....

My local radio station reports this morning that one of them, the 29 year old, has pleaded guilty to violent disorder. Whatever that means for his prospects.

Liverpool fan Sean Cox has returned home to Ireland for family members to continue to support him as he remains in a critical condition.
The dad-of-three was moved back to Dublin on Saturday, with his family now gathered at his bedside in Beaumont Hospital, following a lengthy stay at Liverpool’s Walton Centre.
Mr Cox was attacked close to Anfield before the Reds’ Champions League semi-final first leg against Roma on Tuesday, April 24.
A source told Dublin Live that the 53-year-old’s health hadn’t improved since the attack, but that his family remained hopeful he would pull through.

He underwent major surgery after the assault to address a bleed on the brain, and was placed into an induced coma by medics.
As Mr Cox returned to Ireland, his Gaelic football club in Dunboyne were flying the Liverpool flag to thank the club for their continued support.
A statement released by Liverpool FC on behalf of his wife Martina and his children read: “There are no words to describe the gratitude we feel to the ordinary people of Liverpool and Ireland who have taken Sean to their hearts in a way that underlines why those places have such a deserved reputation for generosity and solidarity.
