Kuyt was poor until midjan. The united game was his major turning point. It's one thing to say it's kuyt based prejudice, when the inverse could be true and say it's lucas based prejudice. He's the only player throughout the entire year to consistently play decently. Since kenny took over he's gone from strength to strength.

Player Goals Assists Combined

Kuyt 11 7 18 (10th highest combined score in the PL- our highest rated player other than Carroll, with 13 goals and 6 assists)

Meireles 5 7 12

Lucas 0 2 2

I know Lucas has had a strong season, a very strong season, but I would still give it to Ming or Kuyt, because they have combined to win us more matches than any other players.

No one has stood out I just remember more good games from Lucas than kuyt, and I mean good GAMES rather than having a stinker and then stepping up to score the winning penalty. There were games where I thought kuyt was magnificent like Chelsea away where he gave a masterclass in how to play as a lone striker but good minutes v bad minutes, pound for pound I think Lucas has been more consistent than kuyt. Nothing to do with kuyt bias I just call it as I see it.

No one's been great. Meireles had a good month, as has Kuyt recently. Lucas really wasn't as good as some people say at the start, though, again, has been good recently.

exactly.

I think you have to give it to Meireles. It's his first season in a league that is often claimed to be difficult to adapt to and a club going through a difficult transitional period, yet he has managed to be a real shining light for us.

Suarez misses out because he's not been here the full season.

Lucas has no Alonso or Mascherano to help him out. Instead he has had a rotation of Gerrard, Poulsen and Ming to play with, having to do all the hard yards on his own.

He has come into his own under testing circumstances. He has hardly been spectacular but he's been steady. His improvement is marked and he is getting the job done.

Ming has come into form and won us games but has no defensive responsibility. Kuyts been anonymous for the first half of the season and doing the business under Kenny.

I've just done the SCM player of the season from Morses thread, and compared the points difference between the two:

Johnson	41	+11
Reina	41	-7

Torres	28	+1
Kyrgiakos	24	-5
Kuyt	23	+1
Suarez	21	-2
Skrtel	21	+10
Cole	13	0
Carroll	13	0
Lucas	13	-27
Spearing	11	0

Aurelio	0	-8

* I'm not guaranteeing it's 100% accurate, did it quickly from looking through the stickied player of the season thread.

Edit: Looks like the formats a little off too....

It's a toss up between Meireles and Kuyt. Meireles has been good and consistent throughout. Kuyt on the other hand, started slow, but has had an absolute stormer of a second half of the season. Kelly would have been in there if he hadn't gotten injured and Suarez too, if he had been there from the beginning.

Can't for the life of me fathom how people can say Lucas. Player of the season should go to the most valuable player and not the most improved one.

I voted for Lucas ... Just think he was the most consistent in a very poor first half for Liverpool FC, and a strong second half.

Spearing has come in only in the last few games, is playing the same role as Lucas, and has the same number of assists that Lucas has accrued in an entire season. That's my problem with Lucas. He does the simple things very well. But that's it. And at the end of the day, is it enough to be called our stand out player?

KUYT FTW.

I cannot believe I'm the first to vote for Pepe!

It's cos we all hate him.

I voted for Raul

Kuyt, Gerrard, Meireles and Kelly have been the best players for me.

Somewhere, Brendan is trying desperately to escape his straitjacket screaming "Fucking Lucas? Fucking Lucas?"
