5 strikers to choose with one to go into the lowest number of votes thread to be voted out.

Rooney, Defoe, Crouch, Heskey, Cole
Ditto.

I went for Rooney, Crouch, Heskey, Defoe and Agbonlahor.

2 Target men, 2 pacy strikers and then Rooney who can pretty much do anything

I am a bit surprised that Defoe has more votes than Crouchy given both their goal scoring records for England - do people not think he will cut it at a World Cup?

I have gone for

Rooney
Crouch
Defoe*
Agbonlahor
Zamora

In that order

*assuming he gets over his most recent injury
Same five for me, but with Agbonlahor bottom of my list. Bags of pace, a decent goal tally and can play wide at a pinch (though he doesn't enjoy it), but his reading of the game still lets him down at times.

I'm not surprised at Defoe's votes BTW. If fit and on form he's even more likely than Rooney to make a goal out of nothing.

Not so sure about that bit to be honest but thats my opinion! My worry is that he never seems to play that well for England, regardless of how well he plays for Spurs.

He scores the vast majority of his goals against teams that will never make it to a World Cup.

He has scored against Uruguay, Greece, Austria, Croatia, Ukraine and Egypt - all teams that are capable of getting into the World Cup finals

Don't get me wrong - I think Rooney is a superb player (though it pains me to say it) and the best all-rounder out of England's forwards. The kind of opportunities I'm thinking of are those which come along in a split second when every other player's marked and there are spare defenders plugging most of the gaps as well. The blinding speed with which Defoe can get a shot away gives him something special in those situations which IMO even Rooney doesn't quite match.

Only one of whom are actually at the world cup.

The average rank of a team he scores against is around 60 in the FIFA rankings. I'd still put him in the squad but as back up

A fair point - lets just hope whoever plays has a blinder!

Agreed - I think they should all be back up, it should be Rooney up front on his own with Gerrard in behind (none of this shoving him out on the left to incorporate him and lardarse in the same team) and Barry and Fatty in the centre behind him thus solving a problem England have had for a while now.

I think it is the best formation we could have, it also gives the option of easily changing to 442 with a single substitution

If you're only going to play one up front then having five strikers in the squad is unnecessary.

What I wonder is given that the argument in favour of Heskey has always been that he makes it easier for the other striker to play , does Rooney's form up front for United (playing as the lead striker as opposed to behind a target man like Heskey) make Heskey redundant ?

I think so, Rooney has done it consistently this year against world class players so why anyone thinks he needs Heskey to assist him for England is beyond me.
