Apparently Ten Haag’s picked Steve McLaren as his assistant.

I’m only happy when it rains [emoji38]

McClaren was actually a decent coach at Old Tw@tford. His record as a manager is more patchy but this could yet turn out to be a good move.

The amazing thing about that video is that in order to sound Dutch, he in fact speaks like a foreign manager whose first language isn't English, producing 'broken English'. There's a remarkable logic to it. The ruse is utterly spoiled by the fact that 90% of Dutch don't speak in broken English at all.

I wonder to what extent it was calculated or even consciously done though. His "Denglish" accent is fairly intermittent and, given that he'll have been hearing it all around him, I can believe that it might have crept into parts of his speech without his being fully aware of it. The temptation is a very strong one - even now, decades after I was a languages student deliberately trying to imitate what I heard around me in Europe, I have to watch myself when speaking to someone with a strong accent from the British Isles. I phoned a Colin Murray radio show once upon a time, got through to him and had to try really hard not to lapse into NornIron myself.

Is Ten Haag all that good? Doing well with Ajax in Holland is a little bit like Rodgers winning everything in Scotland with Celtic, is it not. Yes, the Dutch league is better, but still, it feels like he's hardly proven much.

It's a fair question and they're certainly taking a risk. Pochettino is very good at building up underperforming clubs and would have been the safer bet IMO. However, I read somewhere that ten Haag is Rangnick's choice and, given that Rangnick will be staying on as DoF, they'd have difficulty justifying not taking his advice about the manager's job without upsetting the very structure they're trying to put in place.

John Murtough is DoF, Ragnick will ‘advise’

All about the larger set up an united - they need to get that sorted.
Before that, who is the manager doesn't matter.

I have a Scottish in-law who lapses into Norn Irish any time we're in company.

Speaking from experience most Dutch do speak a form of broken English! Gramatically at least

You should hear my accent.

90% of the time I get asked what part of Scotland I come from.

Even some Larne folk used to call me “The Harbour Jock” - and it wasn’t for any athletic ability.

When I tell people I’m actually Irish and they get all “Sorry… Sorry”… I usually tell them “I’ve been called worse… at least you didn’t call me English”.

Hopefully he turn out to be like de Boer

If this is true, he should just leave now. The owners again proving to be clueless

The suits will never stop meddling. Didn't Ole also come out and say that he had full control, blah blah blah...

In some ways Klopp had it easier as when he joined the toxicity at Liverpool was never ever as bad as it is at United.

Players getting booed.
Captain getting death threats
Player unavailable because of rape investigation
Mature star player with huge influence
Lazy squad don't want to press
