A disgrace that he didnt finish his career at Anfield.
What a player, what a legend.

Top three Liverpool defenders since I started supporting Liverpool:

1. Hansen
2. Hyypia
3. Carra

"A disgrace"? Excuse me, but what the FUCK are you blithering about?

He stated that he wanted two more seasons of playing full time to end his career, we couldn't guarantee him that, so there was an amicable parting of ways. Where is the "disgrace" in that?

For all this sites I'll informed hyperbole that must take the flipping top prize.

Sami got a good send off from the fans in all fairness. Many moons ago, a testimonial game used to be to financially provide for a good servant of the club. A bumper pay day if you will. In those days the players were paid well but nothing compared to the bloated and extorted sums they receive these days. A few players have had them and donated all the funds to charity such as Carra and Niall Quinn but really the relevance of a testimonial has pretty much declined over the years. It's still good to let players who put their graft in for the club that the fans appreciate it but, to be honest, you can do that at almost any game.

Carra's testimonial was great. Didn't he score for both the blues and the reds?

The disgrace was Sami being left out of the CL squad in his final season, I've no doubt that at least partly motivated his decision.

^This.

I'm not sure that actually qualifies as a disgrace in itself Rosco - there was absolutely nothing whatsoever "disgraceful" in the way Sami left - he wanted regular football, we let him leave so he could get it. Period.

To say that the club acted disgracefully is rewriting history, unfair on the club, and completely unsubstantiated when you consider Sami's quotes at the time.

In short, bollocks.

It was that simple right?
Sami was arguably our best centerback when he left and he still had a couple of years left in him.
Later on we somewhat replace him with Kyrgiakos.
What I'm saying is that Rafa should have rated him higher and he shouldn't have let him go.

The only hyperbole here is your reaction to my post.

Completely agree.

Testimonials are only really relevant for lower league players nowadays.

Carras was great from the standpoint of raising money for charity, but it was a bit of an underwhelming occasion in the end, and came off a bit amateurish. Great to see former players returning and all that, but the element of Carra "deserving" a testimonial was irrelevant.

I thought the match was great!

Essentially people were entertained, and had a good day out. Money was made for charity and Carra got "recognised" (even though he didn't need it).

Modo - genuinely, what the fuck are you talking about?

Sami, by his own admission, had realised his very best days were behind him - he'd had a few stinkers the previous season, although he had performed well the season before he left. Undeniably he had fallen from being in the first pairing to being 4th choice, and stated that he wanted first team football.we let him leave.

Look at the interviews he gave on departure. And while you're at it look up hyperbole....

To call the club a disgrace in the process of allowing him to see out his days in the way he chose to is bullshit; either justify the comment or shut the fuck up.

I sort of get what you mean, and I did enjoy the match, but the concept of it being Carras testimonial was sort of irrelevant - it could easily of been Carras Charity Day and it would have made no difference whatsoever - as a means of recognising someones service to the club it has become somewhat irrelevant.

Congratulations on dismantling an argument I never made. Top posting.

Sami should have never been left out of the CL squad for a wide variety of reasons. Benitez fucked up. Sami decided he needed to go elsewhere after that.

the reality was with injuries to Agger and Skrtel he would have played regularly for us the following year anyway. Benitez made it clear where Sami stood by leaving him out of the CL squad though.

Who called the club a disgrace?
Why dont you post his interviews, since you're the one with the sand in your vagina.
How about you look up the words "sensitive" and twat.

I wouldn't say irrelevant. It seems to me that the club wants to continue the traditions of Player Testimonials but, as Sunny said, they're so well paid the reason behind them have changed since it's not required.

But money going to charities is a good thing, seeing old players play again is a good thing, people being entertained and enjoying the day is a good thing.

In short, it's a good thing.

Hahaha! So if it wasn't the club that was the "disgrace" (your word) in proceedings it must have been Sami himself Modo was it?! Imbecile.

And if you're a part time supporter who doesnt remember the interviews Sami gave when he left (re the only disappointment of his time with us being no prem medal, the club moving in the right direction, love for the fans, etc,) then what's the point, eh...

Agree with this, but part of that was down to Carra. He played the match during the Internationals so a lot of players couldn't play or could only make cameos, and although it was great to see the youth players involved, there was two many of them playing at once in the second half and it killed the crowd. When he ran out at the end it was a bit of an afterthought rather...the crowd were expecting him to at least do a lap of the pitch in order to applaud him for his services.

So WHO was the cause of this "disgrace" then Modo if you weren't implying it was the club?

Or is it one of those often seen "disgraceful" occurrences where nobody is to blame!

Simple fact is me old mucker that you are talking shite - calling the situation a disgrace is unnecessary, inappropriate and not an accurate reflection of what went on. In fact unnecessary and not accurate seem to be a theme of yours here....

The mans best years were behind him - he would have been magnificent back up for us, but wanted to play near enough every game he was fit for, for the years he had left, and who could blame him. We wanted to keep him so much that we turned down big £££ offers for him when he had under a year to go, and in the end came to an agreement that allowed him to go to the Bundesliga.

No disgrace, no drama, just a club legend following the old adage that you're a long time retired and making the most of his twilight years (you can easily see Carra doing the same - and in fact he has stated that he will play on for as long as he can even if that means moving club).

Before bandying around accusations such as disgrace in relation to the club and it's staff, I would suggest you follow matters a little more closely - or don't and keep spewing bollocks, whichever.

Owwwww, now don't be like that! Everyone expects you to talk shite anyway, so it's not like it's a surprise!
