Good news. Southampton are a team I like and I hope they can get back with the big boys asap.
I went out with a girl who was a Portsmouth fan. They used to call Southampton 'the scum'. It made me realise no-one has a scum like we have the Mancs.
I have a soft spot for Southampton. They were the opponents for my first game and visit to the Kop. I can't even tell you what game it would have been, but we played them a few times in quick succession, and must have been around 1968.

Good for So'ton, they're more attractive than our clubs here. Says a lot about the level of our league.

Kelvin Davis. My new favourite footballer ever.
At the start of the summer when their money problems were at their worst, he and Jason Euell basically said 'weve made a good living out of football, so dont worry about our wages, just make sure you pay the kids because they have families to keep' then his contract ran out mid summer but rather than leave he stayed for free to train the youth keepers and help out at the club.
Finally last week he agreed a 2 year deal with West ham and has passed his medical.
Yesterday when the takeover was announced, he phoned the manager to say congratulations and the manager said its a shame you had to go but we understand as we couldnt pay you for the last 3 months, then you leave and a week later we could have given you your new contract. So Kelvin phones west ham apologises and declines their offer returning to Southampton today he says 'i have no fear of playing in league 1, and i am partly responsible for us being here' and signs a new 3 year deal.
