Salah angling for a move? New contract?

The solidarity in the squad has been outstanding for the past two or three years, so I'm not keen on Salah and Mane's antics recently. They need to get their heads down again and remember that we won as a unit. They're strikers so you can let them off for the odd whinge when they're subbed, but that should be it. Salah's moan about the captaincy was completely out of order.

It's always a difficult one.

He has little choice on what else to say, apart from I grew up supporting the club and will never ever leave.
It is up to the club it's not always up to the players.. they can angle and push for contracts and if they deserve them then it's all good.

Plus he was asked about being capt. he say he was dissapointed but it's up to the manager. Again hardly a moan.
"I was really expecting to be capt and was really upset about this decision by the manager" is a moan.

We've been here before both Mane and Salah complained kicked water bottles and what not but they've come good I agree though they need to remember it's a unit and they play their role in that.

[article]Quotes attributed to Egypt legend Aboutrika on Sunday evening, however, did ruffle a few feathers when they surfaced online.

The legendary former Egypt frontman was quoted as telling beIN Sport: "I called Salah about his situation in Liverpool and he is upset.

"Salah is not happy in Liverpool. One of the things that made Salah angry was that he was hot the captain against Midtjylland.

"In my opinion, Liverpool are considering selling Salah for economic purposes."

A closer inspection, however, reveals those comments to be the work of smoke and mirrors, to an extent.

Lost in translation, perhaps?

The ECHO sought to find out more about the comments and the context in which they were delivered.

What Aboutrika said during the coverage was actually: “In my personal opinion and I might be wrong, his happiness after the [Palace] game, I sense he didn’t feel much happiness, same with the Tottenham match.

“He did an interview after the Midtjylland match where he expressed he wanted to made captain but he respects the managers decision.

“It’s good to be captain and put on your CV you’ve been captain. It’s good that an Arab is captain of a club like Liverpool.

“He’s scored so many goals for Liverpool he is a star, the club should be framing him [on the wall]. Salah must channel his energy to Klopp and not hold it in.

“The evidence you can see suggests that he isn’t happy, but that doesn’t mean I want him to go, no.

"I want him to stay and be comfortable and be pampered because he is a star."

Aboutrika, who collected 100 Egypt caps across a 13-year career for the Pharaohs, is one of the most famous sportsmen in his homeland.

He shares a close relationship with Salah, but did not claim he had spoken to his friend about the recent events during the broadcast.

It had also been claimed that Aboutrika said Liverpool would sell Salah for economic reasons, but his comments weren't as straightforward as that.

A further translation of that section of the discussion suggests Aboutrika said: "He knows himself and his situation better than anyone. He knows what the club is like. He is also now playing at a huge club, that has a great project and a great coach.

"The other projects in Europe still haven't started yet. Barcelona is still rebuilding. Real Madrid has a lot of stars and still hasn't started a transition phase where they will buy more players, likely at the start of next season.

"We should not really jump the gun. He is a big player, and knows what suits him best. Changing clubs is not easy for Salah. He is an expensive player. He would cost upwards of 150m Euros, so who can today can afford that - as well as convincing Liverpool to let him go?"[/article]

The club will have a choice to cash in now and make $ or sell later for less As he gets past 30. . We are a club that rebuilds on sales of stars. Covid makes that even more likely - it’s one of our only major sources of $

Cheers, mate.

That's better journalism than the cut and paste stuff the nationals have resorted to doing.

I’m not sure agree with us as a club that builds on selling stars, previously big sales I remember in the last 10 years were forced by players rather than us going out of our way to sell them such as Coutinho and Suarez.
It sounded like they were desperate to hold on to Coutinho but in the end, he forced our hand.
Every club is facing the same Covid financial issue. Not sure anyone will even pay the required fee, if he was to be sold then has to be this summer as he wIll have 2 yrs left.

He needs to keep quiet and I’m sure Klopp will manage that.

I hope not and doubt any move will happen this season, I do feel the guy is genuinely at times underrated and under appreciated for his pure talent.

Where is Salah on the captain list? Wasn’t there an interview saying Gini was 4th after Hendo/Millie/VVD. Sounds like it’s a clear offer, and if it is he should have known already he was below Trent?

I don't see much wrong there. I disliked the antics of Salah and Mane sulking after being benched. It's remarkably childish given they're top assets during an intense season. But saying he was disappointed not to be captain but respected the managers decision, that's fine and honest. No top player also rules out moves to other top clubs. Why would you? Anything can happen in football.

It's unlikely Salah will finish his career here, but I think we'll eventually come to an agreement when it is best to move him on. We've got him until the summer of 2023, so there's one more season after this one before we have to stick or twist without losing signifiant value.

FWIW, I'd be fine with him staying longer. Both Salah and Mane are gym-freaks, not injury prone and I think will continue to be dangerous into their thirties - but if either or both are to leave then we need to raid Dortmund for either Haaland, Sancho or Moukoko. The talent at their disposal right now is frightening.

It will be one of the biggest and most defining decisions of Klopps legacy.

For some reason I think Mané doesn't feel he has the same standing Salah has in the squad.
Mané seems like a happy guy, never seen him sulk after scoring like Salah. The tantrums have so far been about him getting subbed and Salah not passing him the ball.
Salah is also the one taking all the pens unless Milner is on the pitch.
Seems like Firmino and Mane have a great relationship, actually Mané seems to be well liked by everyone in the squad.

They're just very different personalities. Mane is far more humble. There's always a look of genuine amazement and gratitude when anyone says he's the best player in our side. Salah, in contrast, has always carried an ego in his back pocket which has helped him become one of the best players in the world. Its always hard to know individual relationships between players, but I think the collective is the strongest it can be.

I remember Peter Crouch conducted an interview at Melwood last year and spent the day there. He said afterwards that he had never seen a stronger sense of togetherness in the many, many dressing rooms he had spent time in.

Don't think I can improve on that post to much. And yes it will be down to timing. Salah's form will dictate a lot. Don't think the Boss is to concerned at this point. He knows players have the right to do whats best for them and some of them can be a bit tempremental, part of the deal with many of them. They come and they go, nothing new in that.

I'm surprised he hasn't made these noises earlier. Always imagined he'd be at one of the big Spanish clubs in the end. It's just that they're both shite at the minute

Liverpool are set to offer Mohamed Salah an improved contract. They want him to stay. Salah’s contract at Anfield, worth around £200,000-a-week, expires in the summer of 2023.
(Neil Jones)
He gets 200k a week, and wants another how much? The economy has tanked, people have lost jobs or seen their earnings cuts, lots of businesses have gone to the wall. Just the wrong time to be greedy

It’s not greedy, paying market rate and the club also ensure they protect their main asset value.
He needs to extend by this summer in order for us to ensure we as a club are protected.
Makes sense, economy is tanked but plenty of people making money out there so why shouldn’t a player with a short career from a humble background? Good on him and any other player deserving of their market rate.

As I think it was Neville that said it ? Barca are skint and RM have just announced they have cash reserves of ca. 313m euros but with a budget of 800-900m. Neither can afford Mo and he also no longer meets their age profile. Would he move to PSG ? That's really the only other option.

However he is winning trophies here, with the world's #1 manager, in a team that fits him like a glove, a fanbase that adores him, plus his family is settled in Liverpool and we are going to increase his salary for a new contract .. why would he move even if he could ? And we likely won't get an offer from anyone anyway, since no-one can afford him!

In these uncertain times £80m+ deals for one player are very unlikely. Salah is at his peak and may hold his form another 2/3 years. Only 3 clubs would normally be in the market for Salah. French football is in a mess after the TV deal went sour. The big 2 in Spain might stump up the money but we would hold out for £100m+ so we are stuck with him. I just hope his advisers see sense and moderate their wages claim to suit the current footie climate.

And if they don't we should make him play for the first team, the reserves, U 23's, U 18's...and do a one match loan to Marine FC for their big FA cup game against JoMo and his Mob.... get our monies worth..

'Stuck with him'? How very unfortunate ... not.

Jesus, some of the less sane 6CM members' insanity seems to be rubbing off with that last para rant.

Will be interesting to test this theory of market down turn impacting top players wages in the summer, David Alaba’s the most prominent free agent I can think of so let’s see what he does...

There is no way Salah would or should be marginalised for not extending, especially based on how calm club have been with Gini over the last year. Money talks but have to remain classy as a club with potential future signings will be watching.

It's never a good idea to have forwards as captains anyway. Captains are supposed to deal with refs over incidents all over the pitch - but you need your strikers to stay as fresh and sharp as possible in the right positions high up, not racing all over the place to talk to the ref. They also can't have as much vision and influence over the whole team as a defender of midfielder. Goalkeepers are the worst choice because they're stuck where they are all game, but strikers are the second-worst choice. Why did Salah want it other than for the dubious prestige value? Did he fancy himself stamping his authority over the team? Surely not. So he shouldn't have got it in any case.

And yes it makes total sense that Trent got the armband.
If Mané played he should have got the armband over Salah as well because he's been at the club longer.
Doesn't Klopp say it was a mistake for Trent to have it, and it should have been Divock. Basically if Hendo, Millie, Van Dijk and Wij are not available it goes to whoever has been longest at the club

Yeah I saw that but, I don't think he would have got it anyway.

I don't really want to lose Salah, But as I have mentained in the past, Mane would be a bigger lost than Salah, and even if we lost Salah or Mane they can be replaced...

Anyone out there remember Rush, Fowler,Owen,Torres and Suarez...
All great strikers and all were replacable...

Not worried either way it goes
