According to L'Equipe, Mamadou Sakho's set to be cleared of doping and will receive no further punishment from UEFA. #LFC

According to L'Equipe, the fat burner that Mamadou Sakho used wasn't actually included on the list of unauthorised substances. #LFC

If this is confirmed. Good news obviously but not good with the games he missed.

I can't believe that he has been banned for the use of a substance that isn't prohibited.
If this were true surely Uefa are liable to be sued by Sakho and /or Liverpool

it would be absolutely fantastic news if true, possibly the best news thats come out of this dire of a season but damage done...we've already lost the biggest game of our season, possibly the biggest game since our fall v chelsea april 2014.

also, if sakho knew he wasn't doing anything illegal - or the club for that matter, why didn't we appeal at the time?? surely then he would have been aloud to play the final?

surely now he has to be included in the France squad for euros??

Damn I was kind of happy that I will not have to watch him play for us again.
Hopefully Matip is half decent and Lovren carries on being decent.

Either would have to prove they suffered damage as a direct consequence of the ban. That would be hard just in principle, let alone in quantified terms.

But the whole thing just goes to prove my theory that being a corrupt, incompetent fathead is in the Person Spec for "football administrator".

A complete farce. Although, surely this could have been solved a lot quicker than this?

I understood it was on the list except it possibly shouldn't have been after Sakho got caught doping. So UEFA are looking to remove it. So, the instant ban was the right thing to do since Sakho shouldnt have it in his body, the dope.

That's how I read it, too. The whole thing is as clear as mud.

I was prepared for a 18 month to 2 year ban. What a complete shambles from UEFA but obviously good news for us.

Not really bothered by the matches he missed. As others have rightly said, Kolo was our best player and the rest were absolute muck.

I expect Sakho to stay with Sktrel and Toure both being sold/released.

Why are UEFA a shambles in this case?

Sakho just got the news

Because the rule they followed shouldn't have included in the first place the substance for which Sakho was banned. If they weren't pretty sure of that now, the chairman of the panel would almost certainly have extended the ban while they made sure.

That assumes all knowledge of the substance performance enhancing capabilities were known and investigated before it is entered on the list. This is unlikely.

A substance is probably added to the list if it has a chemical portion that is either known or associated with another that can potentially enhance performance. To go through each substance methodically will take time and be extremely expensive and to avoid someone 'cheating', it's added to the list prior to extensive testing. Now that Sakho was caught they are doing the test to see if it should be on the list.

Don't forget it was Liverpool that decided to ban him not UEFA. Fundamentally, if it's on the list, don't use it.
