Sack Race:: Klopp vs Potter vs Frank

The forwards we have are all quite different, and their redundancy isn't really an issue come the summer. It's a headache we would love to have, and one we could only dream of having in midfield.

We didn't really rectify the issues in defence either. We meant to, but we haven't. We've added a couple of players and more holes have opened up. I mean, we signed Konate and Ramsay, who have both largely been injured. Konate clearly has class and will hopefully realise his potential, but Ramsay has been unavailable almost completely. Matip is on his last legs, Gomez is awful and needs to go and Trent still can't defend (surprise!). Robbo has declined, Tsimikas has been decent but hardly spectacular and poor Natt can't get a game for love nor money, despite the fact he looks like the only cunt who gives a fuck and will fight for the team (and his performances have been good). Oh and VVD is still good, but past his best and now injured, again.

As you say, we'd love the same headache we have upfront, but the imbalance between the depth upfront and our glaring issues in midfield and defence is staggering.

You say depth up front but we're playing Ox as a LF!

The frustrating thing about our three latest signings being left forwards (Diaz, Nunez, Gakpo) is that our 'system' as it was would actually work pretty well with average forwards if we had the right midfielders. If we had dynamic ball winners in the middle we could get away with more youth players up top, in my opinion.

As they say - you can't build cannons on a canoe. We have neglected the foundations significantly.

On a positive note - if we solve the midfield ASAP then we still have world class quality elsewhere (in goal, at CB, at full backs and now up front).

Gakpo is clearly a long-term "strategic" signing.

The fact that we're getting bummed every week and none of us can quite work out what that long-term strategy is is a bit of an issue.
Long term strategy is simple - fail to make any of the Euro spots, strengthen like hell in the Summer, romp the PL next season with the senior players playing 38 games and the kids in both FAC and LC.
