Ryan McLaughlin will make his international debut next week, as he has been included in the Northern Ireland squad to face Finland.

The 17-year-old has represented the side at U18 level, but next week's friendly at Windsor Park will be the first time he has been called up to the senior side.

Last month the Belfast-born full-back made his senior debut for Liverpool in a US tour match against AS Roma.

It will also be the first NI match for Kyle Lafferty and Steven Davis since the pair left the troubled Rangers for FC Sion and Southampton respectively.

Michael O'Neill has also named their former teammates Andrew Little and Dean Shiels in the 23-man squad for the match on Wednesday 15 August.

David Healy and Sammy Clingan have not been included as they are currently without clubs, while Manchester United's Jonny Evans is being treated for an ankle injury and is expected to miss the start of the Premier League season.

Northern Ireland squad:

Goalkeepers: Lee Camp (Nottingham Forest), Roy Carroll (Olympiakos), Alan Mannus (St Johnstone)

Defenders: Gareth McAuley (West Brom), Ryan McGivern (Manchester City), Aaron Hughes (Fulham), James McPake (Hibs), Lee Hodson (Watford), Craig Cathcart (Blackpool), Chris Baird (Fulham), Daniel Lafferty (Burnley), Ryan McLaughlin (Liverpool)

Midfielders: Steven Davis (Southampton), Dean Shiels (Rangers), Chris Brunt (West Brom), Corry Evans (Hull City), Pat McCourt (Celtic), Oliver Norwood (Huddersfield Town)

Forwards: Jamie Ward (Derby County), Martin Paterson (Burnley), Kyle Lafferty (FC Sion), Andrew Little (Rangers)

The efforts to poach him to the Republic has failed I see.
What efforts were there Modo.
Do you have inside information regarding the ROI actively trying to get McLoughlin to switch allegiance.
Because if you have you should share it.

Or are you just trying to stir the shit on this issue.
Yet again!

is it ever really a case of switching allegiance anyway ? In a place like Northern Ireland , i would have thought feelings on these things are pretty strong and a player wouldn't play for republic (or Northern Ireland) unless he really wanted to and sided that way in the first place . I could of course be wrong .

The spoon is in the pot. Whether it's stirred or not is not for me to judge.
I'm just the waiter.

Modo - stop with the Irish stuff.

You know it's a sensitive issue.

Just leave it please.

M.O'Do ....the man in the know on all things irish .

Boo fucking hoo....some Northerners decide to play for the Republic and they accuse the ROI of poaching them. I made a joke about it.
Since when is sensitivity an issue here.
Jesus Christ it's football.

Well at least that is a slightly different argument than previously when you claimed that you were just interested in finding out more on the politics of Ireland as you has originally come from a divided country.Good to see that you are admitting to being the WUM a lot of people think you are.

Hopefully the mods act accordingly too.

Ok, keep doing what you're doing.

Just don't be surprised if it pisses people off.

Or, is that your intention ?

Yeah and here I made a joke about it, two separate threads and despite my sincere interest you accused me off stirring shit in that one as well.

You can take as much offence as you like, but to me you just seem paranoid.

That's as good a NI side i've seen in ages. I believe he's correctly excluded the likes of Healy, Feeney, Clingan, Grant McCann, McQuoid, Grigg, Gorman, etc - these players don't add anything to the team anymore. If I was O'Neill i'd go with something like this below:

-----------------------------------------Camp-----------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------McAuley-------Hughes-------------------------
---McLaughlin-----------------------------------------------D. Lafferty----
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------Baird--------------------------------
-------------------------------Davis----------------------------------------------
-----Brunt-----------------------------------------------------------Ward------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------Shiels-----------------------------
--------------------------Kyle Lafferty------------------------------------------

He's got a point, there is a pattern of high profile Norn Iron players switching to the Republic, not unfair to assume. Mind you, after the showing at Euro 2012, It would be fair to assume it might be less likely to happen.

Big fucking whoop. People switch allegiances, but that doesn't mean EVERY player is targeted to switch. Germany and France are examples of players who have switched allegiances.

Modo, knock it on the head an stop trolling

Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill has included uncapped Liverpool teenager Ryan McLaughlin in his squad to face Finland on August 15.

McLaughlin has yet to play a competitive match for the Reds' first team since joining their academy last summer, signing a three-year contract.

O'Neill believes the 17-year-old former Glenavon full-back will benefit from his exposure to the full senior squad ahead of the game at Windsor Park.

"Ryan's a young player and we want to try and introduce more young players," O'Neill said.

"This is as much for Ryan's experience as anything else and we don't want to put any expectations on him that are unrealistic.

"He played for the Under-21s last season and did very well. It's a chance to bring him in and let him see what full internationals are about.

"It will be good for him to meet the players as well because some of the younger players will have a significant role to play in the next campaign."

Yeah those minnows Mexico, making it to the Olympic semi with Dos Santos scoring. I do wonder what happened to team GB?
Yeah it's a pity he couldn't get Ipswich out of the Championship or get himself out of Tottenhams reserves.
