I was going to make this a reply to another post but decided it's more about the club/squad than one player so here's a new thread to vent in.
-------
Worrying seems to be the default position of many on here !
I can't help but think Klopp/FSG are planning for the future with the raft of new contracts tying down quality players. Hopefully (expectedly) Mo adds to that, then it doesn't become a total overhaul when Klopp leaves but more a continuance of what has been established.
As for not having a succession plan in place : this is not something I understand per se. Can someone point out what City did? Or United or Chelsea? They bought in players with each successive manager. There was no succession plan in and of itself. In fact with City that situation is even worse as they are, despite their squad of world-class players, without a single top quality striker, never mind two, even with years to plan for Aguero's departure.
In fact I'd go on to say that we are probably at a more advanced planning stage for the future than any top 6-8 team. Nobody already has the backups for every position in place (I'm not talking about squad players but future first teamers) because nobody can plan that far in advance (top young/established players don't want to come and sit on the bench and be told to wait a couple of years to usurp the incumbent).
Clearly we are planning to, and have been, bringing through talented youngsters : TAA, Jones, Elliott and then there's Gordon, Bradley, Morton and others that may supply a couple more to those now established by the time Klopp departs. In the meantime we are bringing in 1 or 2 more established 22-25 yr old players each season, and that seems to be the long term plan (although none of us know to be sure, of course) and I find that difficult to argue against. Even if we'd have liked another player or two right now.
The club seems to be particularly well run at the moment. I don't get the angst & hand-wringing.
