Apparently, Birmingham FC are only a few days away from going into administration. Don't know how true that is and can't find any news about it on the Internet but if that's the case, the rumour is that the next best placed team takes their Europa league spot, Liverpool.
Any truth to this or complete bullshit? What say you?

Havent they sold a few players recently?? i know for the last couple of seasons they have been buying a lot without actually recovering their costs.

Bollox....i don't want to endure another season of Thursday games.

Can we just ignore this, and qualify for Champions League...proper?

I don't buy it.

After all we should concentrate on the league and domestic cups this year.

They've got their UEFA lisence for this season, so I think thats a no go.

Anyhoo, we've apperantly had 2 bids for Dann rejected. That will change now I guess;

Birmingham City's acting chairman, Peter Pannu, has revealed that the club might have to sell more players in order to survive.

The club's finances have been in doubt since owner Carson Yeung was arrested in Hong Kong last month and charged with five counts of money laundering.

Yeung, who denies the charges, has seen his assets frozen and shares in the club's holding company have been suspended.

Pannu admits the Championship club may be forced to sell their best players, including Scott Dann, Ben Foster and Liam Ridgewell to ensure they can pay their bills.

Unpopular decisions
"Upon my return I may have to make some unpopular decisions and I hope the fans will understand that I effectively don't have a choice," Pannu told the Daily Mirror.

"The club may need to do what is right and to buy time until Carson's assets are dislodged from the clutches of the courts in Hong Kong."

Pannu is hopeful Birmingham International Holdings Limited would soon be able to meet the demands of its bankers, HSBC, and that trading in shares would resume, but could not offer guarantees of how the club would continue to fund itself in the meantime.

Financial distress
"An update to the fans is long overdue and it is just fair they hear the latest developments from me now," added Pannu.

"But I am not aware of their plans as to how they propose to fulfil the financial distress posed by the relegation scenario and the freezing of Carson's assets in Hong Kong.

"Carson had been trying hard to find new investors but the money laundering charges understandably meant that the progress had been slow. "

I'd have thought Carson would have no problem coming up with the cash from his current 'backers'

Being in the Europa league would seriously hamper our chances of getting into the Champions League. It's an absurd competition.

I think the mirror is running with a story of financial woes with City, although I don't think Administration is that much of an immediate risk to them, all the story indicates is that they'll have to sack of some 'stars' to stay financially viable.

So i think the notion of us playing in the Europa league is a no go for this season.

Besides that, im quite excited by the lack of Sunday/monday night matches that dominated the past two seasons.Gives me a better chance of getting to some matches this season too.

I would have thought it was too late by now anyway?

Birmingham enter at the play off stage, for which the draw is next Friday. Surely something would have to go wrong quite quickly for them to have to pull out and for us to replace them. There must be a point where any team pulling out just results in a bye.

Me too mate.

It's a distance for me to travel now and Saturday 3pm is infinitely easier for me than a Sunday match, wouldn't even attempt a monday.

Plus 3pm just feels right.

The classified results and final score and all that. Fucking hate super sundays and monday night espns with a passion.

Just something I read. As I said, not sure if there's any truth to it and doubt there is. In fact, I hope there's no truth to it. As has been said, I'm looking forward to Saturday games and feel our participation in Europa would be a hinderance to where we want to be as a club.

europe is a distraction this season. our every effort should be concentrated on making the champions league. we have 3-4 key players an injury to anyone of them will seriously hamper our chances so one of them getting injuried half way round europe in a competition no one takes seriously is a waste of time.

if uefa want people to take the europe cup seriously they should introduce a top prize of entry into the qualifying stage of the CL.

Hang on a ticking minute...

If we get awarded a European place (which I doubt will happen anyway), I for one will be well happy.

We wont be playing our first 11 in the early stages anyway, it is a golden opportunity to blood the youngsters, given the current rota of games there will not be much of a chance to do that this coming season anyway.

With the fact we will also see extra revenue also bodes well in terms of signings.

I can see the disadvantages of playing in the Europa league, but I do not see it as a distraction in anyway, the advantages far out weigh the disadvantages in my opinion.

BTW I agree with the last bit, I have always maintained UEFA should introduce that golden carrot of Champions League Play Off/Qualifier qualification into the competition. If you can drop out of the Champions league into the competition, on winning the Europe League you should be then given opportunity to go back in terms of qualifying for the following seasons Champions League.

I agree Jono, despite the rescheduling of games etc, it's another cup and an opportunity to blood players, as we saw last season. I'll admit it'll be interesting to see if we benefit in the league from not having midweek European games, but still.. a cup's a cup.

Assuming all of this is true about Brum and us being next in line, I wonder if we are allowed to pass.

i don't think i'll mind either way to be honest, though anything that gets in the way of us winning the title isn't a good thing.
