Christian Poulsen could be set to end his Anfield nightmare by leaving Liverpool for former club Sevilla, according to reports.

Goal.com Spain comments that the Dane is unsettled at Merseyside and craves a move away from the Reds, with los Nervionenses emerging as front-runners to secure his signature.

Poulsen only joined the English Premier League side from Juventus during the summer, but has been unable to secure a first-team place under Roy Hodgson, who wants to make funds available to restructure his team in the winter market.

Sevilla coach Gregorio Manzano has demanded new signings be brought in, with central midfielder Tiberio Guarente ruled out until next season with a knee injury while winger Jesus Navas will be missing until the new year as a result of an ankle problem.

Goal.com reported earlier this week that the Primera Division side will look to add at least one new signing in January, with more new names arriving during the summer.

Hodgson is expected to utilise Christian Poulsen in the absence of Lucas and believes that the Denmark international will begin to prove his worth despite a difficult start to life at Anfield.

He added: "I think he's been a bit unlucky in the fact that he's had one or two poor games. When you come to a new club and are playing in a losing team and your yourself are not having one of the best games you've ever had, I'm afraid that gets noticed by everybody.

"Last year and the year before I think it was Lucas. Suddenly now people are realising that Lucas is a good player.

"I'm sure everyone here will realise Christian Poulsen is also a good player but it'll be tough for him tomorrow because if the team doesn't start well and he doesn't start well, he'll have to accept that he won't have the crowd with him. But that's fairly common if you play at big clubs.

"He's a very strong character and a very experienced player. You don't play 80 odd games for Denmark. You don't play for Sevilla, Juventus and clubs of that quality unless you've got something special about you so I've got no doubts about his ability to take Lucas' place."

I'm sick of signing really bad players who we can't/won't offload.
I'm by no means a Lucas fan. but I'd much rather have him palying every week than his older, slower, less athletic partner-in-garbage.

Stop it Mark. Please. Poulsson was a well thought over target for Roy Hodgson. He has followed this painfully shithead of a footballer for 10 fucking years according to himself. He picked him out from all CMs in Europe as a man he would have brought in if he had the chance at any of his earlier clubs, and he finally got him when he got a big club himself. And suprise suprise, he is just as shit as everyone beside Roy Hodgson and a few danes knew. And those few danes have spent the autumn seeing him singlehanded throwing their chances to reach the Euro 2012 down the toilet.

And then he is totally invisble (halleluja) one game for Liverpool, and then he is hailed outstanding by Roy Hodgson.

No he is not playing ahead of Lucas. And probably not Jay Spearing or Jonjo Shelvey either if they are fully fit. But that is not the point.
