Rodgers Speaks to Internet Warriors

He talks a good game, doesn't he?

Definitely. Although, he's a bit overly dramatic. All this 'fight for your life' stuff and the 3 things he will guarantee to bring, is a bit rich after a bit.

He needs to win 3 points and do his talking on the pitch.

I sort of agree, but if the bloke keeps being asked questions he has to say something, unless allowed to resort to the art of mime. Some of his phrases are starting to be repeated too often - and if they're very strong and memorable ones he'll have to learn to ration them very, very carefully, no matter how sincere he is about them -but I'm sure he's desperate to prove himself with good results. The key point here, surely, is that he's taken time to speak to fans in a positive, grown-up fashion and engaged them. Well done to him.

I would rather he said something over nothing just so that the conspiracy theorist don't run amok.

And yes, we need 3 points.

Suarez has a picture of himself on show in his home:

The light obscures it in that pic, but you can see it more clearly here:

Just finished watching it. Interesting enough but really frustrating that you've got 45 mins with a manager like that and he gets asked some of the questions he did. Waste of time.

In a few days time, if I was Rodgers I'd install a barbed wire fence as a joke just to see Jordan Henderson cry a little bit.

He could supplement that with footage from WWI of the soldiers lying on the barbed wire while their comrades walk over the top of them.

There about half an hour further that they can't publish yet as he talks about tactics in the next few weeks against opponents.

I believe he discussed detailed tactics & how he will change formation at times.

They all agreed at the end not to transcript those sections & edit them out until after the games.

Brendan was meant to do 15 mins with them. In total (15 mins informal chats & introductions included) it was an hour & a half.

His interview vindicates what I was saying here:

We are simply not patient enough as an attacking force. As the attacking players become educated to this new way of working, we'll be much better as a defensive force too. The balance will be better. You simply cannot expect to score on every attack and we seem to always go forward with that mentality.

I don't really think that sufficiently explains the mentality, it would be stupid not to go forward with the intent of scoring a goal, it's positive play, the issue is that we seem to think we can throw the ball into the box, aimlessly, hoping that something sticks. We need to pass and move more intelligently, which we've shown signs of doing. The trepidation seems to come from the transition from being a fairly negative side over the last decade and quite static in our play. Our defense has been overprotected for the best part of 12 years and now we're trying to expand, quelle surprise, we're shipping goals.

I agree it's going to take time, I just hope Rodgers doesn't stubbornly try to fit square pegs into round holes if he finds he doesn't quite have the players yet to pull it off. He needs to be flexible and able to adjust his tactics.

A couple of the goals we have conceeded are a result of trying to be to clever and not taking our time in the attacking third. Gerrard in particular could have taken a second touch on a few occasions.

I know what you're getting at but if you have round holes - you need to get rid of the square pegs - not dig the holes again to accommodate the square pegs.

Short term pain for long term gain.

Agreed, though he states there might be a 'compromise' this season as players get used to his system & cos the personell he wants aren't all here yet in the interview with 'Internet warriors'.
