Rodgers Speaks to Internet Warriors

Brendan Rodgers is certainly young enough to know how to navigate these internets tubes. He could be reading this right now.

*waves at Brendan*

At 45 minutes, it's long but well worth it. I urge everyone to take the time to listen to this.

I came here for the owners. I trust them. Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn. They're so honest.

I feel like I have done some wonder deed.

The Anfield Wrap is generally worth a listen despite how they seem to romanticise Rafa.

I must say it is great the way he talks for about 3 minutes about the mongy way Gerrard gave the ball away for the goal, dressing it up as a tactical error, a problem of positioning and a team mistake when it was just utter carelessness.

It's not as long as 90 minutes of watching us play. The way he's making use of Lucas is his second act of genius in as many weeks. Who is our employed match analyst, it's some teenage kid he brought over from Swansea. Once the owners get wind of the fact Lucas is taking on the role, that kid is going to get made redundant. Happy Christmas motherfucker.

He goes on about how fair and great and hard working he is for ages, it's more the kind of interview you'd expect from Caesar returning from Gaul than from a new boss who'd just bagged 1 point in 9.

That said, he's obviously a very likeable dude and I believe what he was saying. It's just a bit cart before the horse for me.

Good interview. Like him more and more tbh.

Now get some points on the board before some of us get a nervous breakdown.

Someone Binnify this interview into it's main points, please.

You should listen to it. Main points:

- He believes in the kids and has been spending a lot of time looking at them in the last week.
- Says young players will run through a barbed wire fence for you. Older players will try to find a hole in the fence. He likes the fight that young players have.
- Suso will get his chances in the first team this season.
- Joe Allen is an even better player further up the pitch "He's got another 50%". When Lucas is back we will see that, but Rodgers only has Allen to play that deep lying role and dominate possession and dictate tempo at the moment.
- We are too impatient up front. Try to score with every attack. Some players have been too used to this style for years so it's taking time to change the way they see attacking tactics. He is confident it will come and reckons this is the hardest bit of work now.
- Thinks the transfer window should close when the season starts - talks about the moral issues of having players in the squad at the start of a season who don't want to be there.
- He is trying to protect Raheem from the media. He is impressed with the way he has learned quickly and continues to improve. Not for the first time, he alludes to the fact that Raheem making the step up is something he can take credit for.
- Spoke about the difference between 2 up and 1 up in terms of the midfield 3. Mentioned that he may have to introduce different tactics in the interim as players learn what he wants from them.
- He believes that having a keeper who can play football gives us a man advantage when we have the ball. Mentioned "11 against 10" a few times.
- He works hard, wants to fight to the top, and has a lot of confidence in himself. "I'm good at what I do".
- He really rates Lucas and plans to send him to some games with his analyst to keep him involved and tactically aware. Says Lucas is "one of the disciples" - who is really excited about the way Rodgers wants to play and that this style will showcase Lucas' strengths.
- Wants to get to the stage where we kill teams with our football. "Death by football". Suck the life out of them with our passing games, stay in control until the opposition make a mistake in their organisation, and then exploit that.

He also emphasised the need for young players to work hard every day. He said that some players will say: "Give me 20 minutes on Saturday and I'll show you what I can do". But that it's not about that. It's about showing him what you can do every day of your life. I think that answers questions about seemingly talented youngsters who have yet to get their opportunity. That, and his "don't run forward if you can't run back" rule. Hopefully they get the message.

06:40 Rodgers: "There's no point spending absolute millions and fortunes on players if they can't play football."

John Henry prefers younger managers because they'll run through a barbed wire fence for you, whereas an older manager will try to find a hole and it just isn't the same.

I couldn't make it through the whole thing, I learned that Rodgers is not the sort of person you want to indulge with these sorts of questions.

"Could it be the case that, strangely, the fact we completely fucked up the end of the transfer window leads to us curing cancer?"

Then Rodgers holds up his fingers and begins talking in twos and ones.

It gets even better when it gets dark and he lights a candle. Then, as his expectant Redmen audience gazes at the shadows he makes, he puts two fingers up and says, 'Can you see that? It's a wee rabbit, so it is!' (Ooohs from the audience.) Then he bends one finger on the other hand and clenches his knuckles: 'And what have we here? It's a drunken tinker, so it is, and he's very hungry. For rabbit!'
