Insignificance

Bad to the bone

It is not a dig at Rodgers, and I know he needs time and we are a club in transition so don't expect any miracles for a couple of years and all that. But a simple poll to see what people think so far.

I like him. We have the youngest team in the Premiership these days, and people seem to forget that.

Unbeaten for the last 7 in the league and getting better each game. Has the bollocks to change things around if they are not working and has gotten us some extra points.

Need to win more games but that will come. Couple of good signings and the team will start to look quite good.

I don't understand the point, didn't we do something like this the last time we had a bad result? We're unbeaten in the league for a good few games, going ok in Europe, while drastically short of attacking options. We're playing good football and have been unlucky (and robbed) in some games.

Everyone knew what our achilles heal was in August, it was always going to be a case of putting up with the rough and the smooth until we could make some additions.

So far, I'm impressed with the play, with an attacker or two we could really be going places.

Was it the same with Benitez? For me the Roy appointment was a huge dissapointment. The Kenny one was real love. Now it's meh. But we will see.

Honestly, I don't know.

If you take in account all the shit we went through for the last two decades it's hard to feel other than 'meh' to anything.

'Meh' keeps you sane.

Obviously we need more firepower but last night was a classic example of others not contributing goals when they should have. Both Suso and Henderson had one on ones and fluffed them, we need those to go in.

Agreed, but then I don't think Hendo is good enough attacking wise and Suso, while looking a great prospect and having an impressive ability to dictate the attacking play at such a young age, still hasn't exactly pulled up trees. Hendo should either be in the Lucas role or on the bench, Suso... I'd be looking at bringing in an attacker in January and either relegating him to the subs bench or giving him a longterm go at the 'hole' position, currently occupied more often than not by a massively underperforming captain.

Yeah, I'm somewhere between 'wow' and 'meh'.

Content I guess. I want him here for three years minimum.

The question with Suso is whether he can grow in to the Gerrard role. Shelvey is his competition there, with Allen behind him.

The other favored option *cough* *looks at KHL* is Erickson.

I'm not a fan of Henderson, but his only hope is to grow in to that DM role. Personally don't think he has the technical ability or intelligence, but playing him at RB or wide right is, was, and will be a waste of time and effort on all fronts - we entering the square pegs & round holes scenario again.

I agree

Sell henderson and buy another midfielder who's less shite, or at least versatile

And suso can't grow into the gerrard role because only gerrard could do that role. Suso needs to base his game on silva and thats it.

We're defo better than we were last year so he's doing something right.

Shame about the strikers. Not his fault Pepe is gash. Good transfer window won't see us worrying manchester clubs but could see us back in the top 4.

Not a lot of give in those options, but I think he's the right man for the job, and we're going in the right direction. I don't feel totally disillusioned like I did towards the end of Rafa's reign or when the budgie came in.
I think it will work out with him, just needs some time. I never felt that way with any of the last 3.

In a way I agree - Suso could never be Gerrard because their style of play is different - but I think Suso can be effective in a different way - not carrying us the way Gerrard did, but being part of a fluid attacking four on a way that Gerrard never was.

Content is how I'd probably describe myself too, but I am a bit impressed with his ability to so the job and make a parody of the Office at the same time.

Yup, I agree his link up play will be essential, but thats why he needs to work on his play and follw a silva/mata/hazard/oscar, because they all know how to pick the space and drift in effortlessly

I guess that'll come with time. I used to rip the shit out on y Man Ure "friends" over Ronaldo being a show pony with no end product - then it clicked for him and he went to that level that sets apart the good from the great.... And then the greats from the absolute legends.

Slim chance - but I think Suso might have enough to be a big star - I think it's great we're giving him games when he's not "exactly pulling up trees", because it's the only way he'll really learn how those trees get pulled up.

I think its obvious we need a Silva / Mata type player, unless Suso or Shelvey can step up to the plate in that role (i'd say Suso is probably more likely). Shelvey to me looks more of a Gerrard replacement / Lampardesque.

But I guess if we buy a player like that we would have to change formation to 4-2-3-1 really... and to be honest I think id rather see us play that formation but with Rodgers style of play... Think it is better suited to his style compared to the way Rafa deployed it.

Cautiously optimistic about Rodgers.

He's either the genius who will take us to the promised land and build a new dynasty..... Or an absolute nutter who will never work again in football.

I think He'll do it - but there will be some big bumps in the road.

Ambivalence Is almost our best approach at the moment.

Obviously I don''t like him at all, but to be fair to him he's not done much wrong tactically on the pitch. With Lucas out and Gerrard in his current strangely enervated state, the team looks incoherent in the middle, and that's not Rodgers' fault. Post-January will be the time to really start assessing his performance, if he can get any of thee players he wants.

I think he's great. He's a bit of a character, an enigma. He's obviously full of confidence in himself which is a good thing for a manager who wants to be top level. He isn't afraid to piss people off, nor is he afraid to completely alter his plan at a moments notice.

There are signs i've seen this season which suggest he could build a long-term successful team full of players who want to be at this club, and who will fight tooth and nail to get in the starting XI every week.

This is an issue for impatient fans who want everything straight away I guess, though I'd say most fans will see we're heading in the right direction.

Rodgers: "I would stress it is not a psychologist. It is neurology." Giggled when I read that. I like him, but he can be David Brentish at times.
