Rodgers back to Swansea

Status
Not open for further replies.
Pissed you off so much you said it twice

I just saying exactly how it's is..

Go and throw abuse to others on here that say the same...

Rodgers is back at a level where he can feel at one with the Allen's and Sigurssons of this world.. I wish him the best of luck.. With his focus on youth, He will make a great England Manager for the future..

Klopp on the other hand.. Is the real deal, the first decent manager with a proven pedigree we have had at this club since Rafa left..

I'm glad you've shaken off that thin veil you used to wear, when you started wishing him out of the job in September, months after nearly winning the league, but kept pretending you actually weren't being a dick every time his name was mentioned. There's wanting him gone and being blatantly disrespectful about it, and you were the latter and still can't help putting the boot in.

I mean, who does that?

And quit acting like Klopp already won something with us. We're in 9th place and have just wimpered out of a League Cup Final, it's hardly fucking a bed of roses.

But Swansea is his level Mark so stop getting your knickers in a twist. Interesting you having a go at him for his comments about Rodgers while you seem to have a few digs at Klopp, not just this thread, who has been in the job merely months and not had a summer transfer to bring his own players in.

Not too sure what's with the hate. I wanted him gone long before he did as well. It has got to do with the performances of the team, rather than a personal vendetta against BR.

As far as i remembered many were up in arms over the poor performances of the team under BR. You were one of those who gave these people stick by saying he almost won the league. He did eventually get sacked due to the some of the reasons many had pointed out back then.

It's reactionary and completely biased. I backed Kenny and was gutted when he left, even though it was ultimately right that he went, I wanted him to succeed. Same with Rodgers and the same with Klopp, I've criticised all three too, you can't wash over everything with Klopp just because he hasn't had a transfer window, he's made some great decisions and some poor ones. Doesn't practically every manager? I'm not taking anything out on Klopp because of Rodgers, just like I didn't with any of his predecessors, despite being more/less attached to certain ones, it is what it is. I just don't see the need for personal digs from the same posters all the time, or a desperate need to throw abuse his way everytime there's a thread opened about him. So when the same posters do it all the time, I don't think it's unreasonable to point it out. He's being a dick and he knows he gets some posters backs up about it, but he still does it and then acts all fucking innocent about it. Myself, Leo, LTW, Peggy and several others have pulled him up about it, countless times.

*this is the guy who has a sticky at the top of the forum about deliberately goading other posters, BTW.

When we beat United, Jono was out there straight away with his "how lucky are we" thread, there wasn't an ounce of perspective coming from him after the humiliation against Southampton. It was the same under Rodgers, by the September after nearly winning the league, he was giving him deadlines. Whenever there was a poor result he was there giving him abuse, but not a word from him after a good result.

If people don't like him, and it's pretty clear Jono, you and Silver Sean (for example) don't, then fair enough, but the guy did bring us a great 18 months of football and the best challenge we've put in for decades. He was also completely respectful towards the club, even if his ego did sometimes get in the way and he didn't always get it right. He doesn't deserve constant abuse & criticism IMO, it's done now, he's gone.

GkMacca was a massive fan of Kenny's return (so was I) and wasn't overawed about the idea of Rodgers, but he was largely fair over him, he gave him stick when he deserved it and praise when he deserved it. Nothing personal, just sound judgement and reasoning. When he left he gave a good analysis of his tenure with perspective, no bitterness and wished him well. Looking forward to a new era under Klopp. That's about as graceful as it should be. And a stark contrast to Jono's constant sniping at Rodgers.

As for me, I'm made up we've got Klopp and hope we/he succeeds, but the adulation from the word go with Jono and selective judgement of his performances smacks of hypocrisy a touch. He's carrying on like Klopp has already made it, there's a long road ahead yet. Every good performance shows we should be thankful for him being here, every poor performance is someone elses fault. Like I said, we're 9th in the league, so there's a long way to go yet, but hopefully we'll get there. And if we don't, then it's the same as with every other manager over the last 26 years (apart from Hodgson!), it doesn't make him a nobhead. It's just tough shit.

Oh, and to add some perspective to my perceived digs at Klopp, here's my response to Jono's thread about Klopp. Which is about as fair and balanced as it gets. Contrast that with Jono's in ability to talk about Rodgers without acting like a complete wanker:

Most fans on here are just happy that we've been fairly lucky with managers, in that they've all brought some level of success (Hodgson aside). We might not have won the league, but over the last 25 years we've still won cups, had fleeting moments of brilliance in the league and Europe and have usually been there or thereabouts around the top four, give or take the odd hiccup. We all want to win the league, but to show a bit of perspective have a look at how many finals we've been involved in since the turn of the century (for example), that's been testament to the managers we've had. They may not have been the very best to bring home the holy grail, but Houllier, Rafa and Rodgers came pretty damn close, while others continued our tradition of winning domestic cups. We need to do alot better, but it hasn't been awful either.

Klopp is beginning to make his mark on the team, it's been an up and down season, but we're getting there, long may it continue. We play some wonderful stuff at times that's pretty breathtaking when at it's very best, hopefully when he adds a couple of players we'll add the consistency we've been lacking.

And another, in response to Pat's criticism of our performances:

It'll take time, Pat. You can see signs of it, plus we've had our first choice attack available about 4 times this season, once we've got Klopp's backbone in place, it'll start to take shape. At the minute he's trying to polish a turd with alot of players, too many players. We'll come good.

Omg. You are such drama Queen and read far too deeply into everything I say.. I ain't going to dissect it, but lets just say you couldn't be more far off the mark.. Your passion clouds your judgement.

Klopp is already showing signs of improvement where Rodgers failed..

Defence looks more solid, progressed in Europe. Got to a cup final, teams look far hungrier.. Certain players we all had previously given up on suddenly looking their worth..

Granted he is no messiah and has had his problems... But people forget the squad he has, was inherited.. Things will most certainly improve when he stamps his mark on the squad next season... Then you have the name Klopp.. A name that will attract the bigger name players in the transfer market, simply because they want to play for him...

As for Rodgers legacy, we have a summer clearing out some of his god awful buys, probably some of the most 'out of place' players we have seen brought in by any manager for a long while..

Yes we had a good 12 months with him, even then his signs of being unable to compete at this level reared it's ugly head. His ego sometimes took control.

Chelsea game, we needed a draw.. He went out to win, which proved to be his undoing..

Our defensive frailties where all to see that Season.. We only got away with it because of our Keegan Newcastle style mentality and having a world class player in Suarez at the helm..

We had a world class player that made that season, a player that lifted the team and everyone around him, Rodgers undoing was being unable to move the squad forward when he was sold.. From the moment Suarez left, he looked utter clueless on what to do moving forward with the team, any fixes where temporary and just papered over the cracks, he bought dross upon dross, which made only before to make matters worse..

As it turns out not all of those players where dross, one or two are now starting to show their worth, Better management?? Understanding the players more?? probably, who knows.. I just know Rodgers couldn't cut it and by the end of last Season, I was ashamed to be a Liverpool Fan..

Some of the worst displays I've seen in my life time came under Rodgers reign.. There was no hiding from it..

To compound my point. So name all of these terrible "out of place" players, and show me another manager who's come into a club and not had the same numbers of players to get shut of. And you were "ashamed to be a Liverpool fan"? Did you actually just say that?

Realistically the out of place players are Benteke & Mario, there are cases to be had for getting rid of the following Rodgers signings:

Mignolet (who Klopp just gave a new contract to)
Markovic (who may yet stay)
Toure (who wasn't a poor signing at all, but is now too old)

We've bought a few lower priced players who didn't work out: Alberto, Aspas.

We have Allen, Sakho and Moreno, none of whom are bad players but do have question marks against them.

We're also left with:

Lovren (who is much improved)
Clyne
Gomez
Can
Milner
Firmino
Coutinho
Sturridge
Origi
Ings

Plus some players who've been here since before Rodgers was here - Lucas, Skrtel, Ibe, Texeira etc.

That's nowhere near a terrible turnover, it's fairly representative of most teams turnovers over the first season or so of a new manager. It also leaves approx 10 Rodgers signings who could have big futures here. When Rodgers came in he had to get rid of alot of players too. As did Kenny.

When Rodgers came in, in his first year he sold/released the following players:

Rodgers shocking signings

Luis Alberto (Yes he still on our books)
Igo Aspas
Fabio Borini
Mario Balotelli
Christian Benteke
Mingolet
Joe Allen
Rikki Lambert
Moreno (brainless)
Markovic
Ilori (7 million we paid for this fella)

Player who where previously looked upon as not worth their salt under Rodgers, but now improved

Sakho
Lovren (muched improved under Klopp)
Lallana (much improved under Klopp)
Firmino (probably took time to settle in)
Origi

Rodgers successful signings under his reign..

Clyne
Gomez
Can
Sturridge
Coutinho
Maybe Ings.. Too early to tell.. Injured just before Rodgers sacking, but looked decent..
Toure

Milner makes none of these lists.. He is just a steady eddy..

Should of signed better, but he does have a role to play, albeit it should be a bit part role come next season..

To sum up; we've bought loads of shite over the years and each manager starts his tenure selling the players that havent previously worked out as planned.
Wasted loads of money is a given.

That said, Klopp has taken over a squad also filled with a lot of potential. Credit to Rodgers/the committee for that aswell.
We have to get it right this summer though or it will just continue as it has done for as long as I can remember.
The squad needs major surgery but the first team is a few players away from being pretty good.

Sakho played the second half of the season when we went on our mammoth run and nearly won the league. He has been in and out the team largely due to injury, it's nothing to do with being looked upon as "not worth their salt". Joe Allen isn't "shocking", he might not have been consistent, but he has had good spells and even recently has been a positive influence on the team.

Rodgers said a week before we signed Mario that he didn't want him. Klopp just gave "shocking" Mignolet a new deal, Ricky Lambert didn't get a look in and we got most of our money back on him, poor deal maybe but a fairly limited damage one, he was a back up. Moreno has also had some great games for us, he's young and could improve (I doubt it, but he's not a terrible player, just not a very decisive defender).

Firmino had been here only a couple of months when Klopp joined, same with Origi who had just endured a terrible time in France, it's not really a surprise they took a while to get going. Neither were great straight away under Klopp either. Lallana was a good signing regardless but the fee was too much. Milner & Toure have both been successful free signings.

Btw, Ilori's transfer details were leaked recently. The fee was £3.8m with £1.2m in appearance add ons, none of which he's activated. Who signed him? Rodgers or the committee?

Like I say, the potential turnover of players is no different to your average turnover under a new manager. As both the Kenny and Rodgers lists show.

This is so tiresome. Why does every single fucking discussion about managers have to be so binary? I've never, ever understood how it's so hard for some to see the good and bad in our managers. To appreciate what they did well, and deserve credit for, and what they didn't.

There are plenty of unarguable (unless you're totally fucking mad) positives about Benitez, Houllier, Rodgers and Klopp. It's only Hodgson who was inarguably disastrous.

And as for Houllier, Benitez and Rodgers, I was quite happy to admit that, at the time of their departures, it was probably time to move on. We just didn't always get the replacement right.

Rodgers was clearly given the Liverpool job too early, but there's no doubt that we had some fantastic times while he was manager. Credit Suarez if you like, but he was still picking the team and doing training.

As for Kenny's return, I did love the idea of it, but I was also quite able to admit that no other club the size of Liverpool would have given him the job permanently. He got the job because he was Kenny Dalglish. And I was OK with that and happy to admit it. But when he was appointed and many seemed to expect a title challenge, I remember saying if he achieved half of what Benitez did when he was here, he'll have done well.

This was viewed as heresy, rather than an obvious statement of fact, and while his removal from the post was unfortunate given the League Cup win, and the other final appearance, there was again some argument that it was merited, given how genuinely awful much of our league form had been. We looked a mile away from the Top 4.

Replacing a Liverpool legend like Kenny Dalglish with Swansea's Brendan Rodgers didn't do him many favours with some people, but again, many simply found his PR - which was very different from the grumpy bile Kenny had to offer at times - nauseating and fake, and when you become a caricature and figure of fun your time is usually up.

I suppose having extreme views about managers and players makes the discussion more amsuingly volatile and emotional, but after a while it's just a load of sound and fury signifying nothing.

Klopp will get the chance to prove his mettle. He's certainly the best and most exciting managerial appointment at Liverpool since Benitez. He's considered one of the best managers in the world and has the trophies to back that up. If he gets given the money he needs and deserves, we may well be back up near the top, but I'm not sure FSG have the same level of desire and ambition that he does.

*applauds*

Quite, and it echoes what I'd said in a couple of posts at the top of the page. Apologies if I'm being fierce in my defense of Rodgers (I know his flaws and don't believe he is any way infallible), but we've been here a million times with Jono and it's not really about him having a negative opinion of Rodgers. It's the pathetic abuse and desire to constantly highlight his failures while completely absolving him of any credit for what success he had.

This is the poster who's repeatedly given complete credit for our title challenge to Suarez while repeatedly labeling Sturridge a failure of a signing due to his injuries.

This is the lad who just said he was "ashamed to be a Liverpool fan", because our results took a turn for the worse under Rodgers at the end. Really.

I honestly can't remember us playing better footy ever than 2013/14. I think Rodgers is a bit of a hoop, but even I can see that losing Suarez and Sturridge totally fucked him.

Oh god, look what you made me do, I'm still talking about this bullshit.

Mark and Brendan have said it all really. The thing that pisses me off above all else when people evaluate Rodgers' time with us is that he gets absolutely zero credit for that title challenge. Yes he was fortunate to have the best player in the world and one of the best strikers in Europe to call on...but to say it was all down to them does Rodgers and the rest a great disservice.

6-1, Abject FA Cup semi final display.. countless unwanted records broken, it was a depressing time to be a Liverpool Fan towards the end of Rodgers reign, that cannot be denied, it was shameful.... The most shameful in recent times. Amongst all that we had to listen to his post Match drivel for 12 to 18 months, he became a laughing stock..

I never wanted him as a manager, it was too early for him, it was a great ride for 12 months I agree, football at times was scintillating, he does deserve some credit for that, but it only went to expose and highlight his failings as a manager further into his reign..

'The keep him because he nearly won us the title bandwagon' made me laugh.. Blinded by this to see his failings tactically early on..

God you're a fucking dick sometimes. There was no "keep him because he nearly won us the league" bandwagon. There were quite a few posters who thought you were being a typical reactionary, microwave generation fan who showed absolutely no respect to the guy for what he had nearly achieved.

"I was ashamed to be a Liverpool fan". How many posters on here would actually say that? You and probably someone like Arn. Go figure.

God you're a fucking dick.
That's Twice now you have thrown obscene insults in my direction. Not once have I done that in your direction. Grow up..

Your problem is you cannot stand anyone having an opinion that differs from yours. I am not the only one this site or other sites that thinks this..

I get your passion, but your are acting like big kid.. Go suck a lolly..

Grow a pair and grow up Mark..

I got better thing things to do that get embroiled in a argument with arrogant idiots like you..

Happy Easter

I get your passion, but your are acting like big kid.. Go suck a lolly..

Grow a pair and grow up Mark..

I got better thing things to do that get embroiled in a argument with arrogant idiots like you..

Happy Easter

Me grow up? Listen to yourself.
