City loan record signing Robinho to Santos

Manchester City have allowed record signing Robinho to join Santos on a six-month loan deal.

Robinho was unhappy with Mancini's selection policy ahead of his hopes of playing for Brazil at the World Cup

City confirmed in a statement on their website that the Brazilian club will pay all of the player's wages and bonuses for the period, which begins immediately and ends on August 4.

Manager Roberto Mancini said: "Robinho is someone who needs to be playing regularly and we wish him well for the period of his loan."

The Brazilian, who cost £32 million on transfer deadline day in September 2008, has been unsettled at City for some time and spoke on Sunday of his desire to return to the club where he made his name as a teenager.

Speaking in a radio interview last week, Robinho admitted he was not playing well for City, but complained that he was not being allowed to play regularly under Mancini.

"The coach was very sincere with me and said that I would play every other match," he said. "I told him that would not be interesting to me, it's a World Cup year."

Robinho said he wanted to return to Brazil to boost his chances of securing a place on Brazil's World Cup side. He first played for Santos at the age of 15 and led them to their first Brazilian title in 2002 when just 18. He first moved to Europe in the summer of 2005 but failed to impress at Real Madrid, from whom City signed him when Chelsea was his expected destination.

We all laughed when City signed him and claimed he didn't move for money, despite him not appearing to know *who* he has signed for.

How not? Despite what his reputation preceives, he's still a quality player and would get in any squad in the league. Granted he is a twat, on the pitch he's one of the best they have.

I suppose what he's saying is that they've got to where they are this season without him, so it mightn't make that much difference.

He had been appearing less and less of late, sounds like he was a minor cancer in the dressing room, has little concept of team. City also have a reasonable bit of firepower in Adebayor (if he mentally recovers from the Togo incident), Tevez, and Bellamy. He is a very skilled player but I don't think they will miss him very much. On the flip side, if he didn't want to be there I don't think he would have contributed much.

If City is going to become a genuine force in this league, they are going to have to have a strong locker room. In my opinion, of course. I'm of the opinion weak locker rooms typically fail regardless of talent level.

Of course City is losing out on some talent. Even if I was shit-stirring, which I'm not, I wouldn't claim that.

He's been living off some good performances during his first season as since then he's been largely poor. I've not met one City fan that would see him start ahead of Bellamy.

While I don't think he'll fair as poorly as Cascarino has him fairing, I think he'll be a decent player in La Liga or perhaps Italy next year. He bombed, it happens. I wonder if he'll allow his obvious talent go to waste.

City have done the right thing here. When Robinho arrived he was the obvious star player and apparently treated as such, only training when he fancied it etc.
Now City have a better squad, the manager appears to have told him that he is not the star player but is welcome to be part of the squad and he doesn't like it.

No great surprise. There'll be plenty of comings and goings from City. A bit like when Chelsea got rich they bought big just to show that they could but bought less players as time went on.
