Roberto Firmino - signed the silky swine

Paul Joyce's article here:

Has a couple of interesting points. Firstly that we'll be reverting to a 4-3-3 next season, with the option to go to 4-4-2 diamond (I guess not that surprising for anyone on here) and secondly that BR's first choice midfield is Milner, Henderson and Can.

Joyce does have links to the club but I don't know whether he's just doing some supposition here - but it would be interesting to see how Coutinho is used next year - as much as I like him centrally a midfield as above would be more robust.

Wait, Sturridge won't be back for the start of the season?

From an article published on 7 May:

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/may/07/daniel-sturridge-liverpool-next-season-hip-surgery

The striker had surgery in New York on Tuesday and Liverpool are confident it will remedy several underlying issues behind his poor fitness record. However, it will be four months before the 25-year-old can resume full training and with his pre-season effectively beginning in early September, it could be mid-to-late October before Sturridge is available for Brendan Rodgers’ team again.

Is it not obvious we're going to sell Sterling now?

I'd say so, but then, unless we've already agreed a deal with Citeh, it's strange timing for the purchase. If we really are 'skint' and Citeh know it, that gives them juicy leverage. They'll know we are desperate for the cash and can piss us about.
I'd love to think that the board have realised that we're only ever going to get up there if they invest heavily and that this is the start of a spending spree. But, I think it's more likely that I become the marquee signing of the season.

So basically
Coutinho-Studge/Firminho-Lallana/Ibe

Milner-Henderson-Can

Not bad at all.

Interesting, I'm not sure how that midfield would work, who would be the further forward? Who would play the DM role, Can? I'm not sure he's good for it. Personally I like the idea of Henderson and Milner with Coutinho in front, but we'll see, I imagine it will change quite a lot throughout the season.

Given that our own manager has no idea how we'll be setting up, I find it amusing that some journo knows what we'll be implementing on the field.

Brendan may think he knows how we'll be setting up before it all goes wrong and he has to find a new formation at 3am in his kitchen or whatever it was the last time.

I want this:

---------------Illarramendi
-----Henderson/Can-------Milner
-----------------Coutinho
-----------Sturridge----Firmino

With Sturridge out, the front three can be either:

-----Ibe-----Firmino-----Coutinho

or

--------------Coutinho
------Firmino------Origi/Ings

This all day long.

This attack is not going to be as good as Suarez-Sturridge, so it's imperative with make the midfield and defence more solid than ever before.

Holding mid is key to that. Milner will also help. I'd put Ilori alongside Skrtel straight away too.

Is he not coming, at a potentially higher price, to do the job Lallana was supposed to do, and the which Coutinho is already doing

If he's played up top, will he get goals

If not, do we need him

(soz no question marks, keyboard issues!)

There are so many permutations possible now, it's going to be fun for Mark Hughes to guess who we'll be starting when we visit Stoke for our revenge game in next season's curtain raiser. And we may yet still add a CM to mix things up. It's going to be fun.

Me too. 442 seems to suit our players better. Firmino should be played up top.

It'll all go wrong and we'll resign Big Andy as a plan B option. It's written in the stars.

I'm in the Macca camp, but fuck it: he's an international Brazilian forward. That does for me.

*Dreams*

Coutinho...Firmino...back to Coutinho...on to Formino...O...Oh yes - it's YESIL!

Me too. Never seen him kick a ball until a bit of Youtube last night.
BT taking the Copa America has cost me a bit of scouting too.

Still. Hes brazilian and gonna be awesome.

We have a 100% record of our Brazilian signings being AMAZING.

In fact South America has been very kind to us.
Italy not so much.

Aurelio wasnt amazing either. Amazing at getting injured maybe.

But Firmino will be ace. No doubt about it!
