He's being set (and/or setting himself up) as the next Beardsley/Dalglish. It's really hard to know if that's something Cole's capable of, because we've never seen him play there. All I would say is that our record of buying players to play in what has become The Gerrard Role has so far had a 100% failure rate, simply because no one else can play the role as well as Gerrard. Then again, with a new manager, things might be different. A lot depends on whether Roy sees Gerrard as a second striker or a central midfielder.

Unfortunately that is the nature of the modern game. You can add thousands of other players to that list. Drogba & Robben (and a thousand others) are just cheats and in my book aren't as bad as players such as Van Bommel who is a disgustingly dirty & dangerous player.

Van Bommel's the kind of player who is loved by fans of the club he plays for, and feared/hated by all other fans. Doesn't mean he's not a very good player.

However,when I said "modern game' I was referring more to the Robben cheating, diving, faking comment than the tough guys who have always existed in the game.
