Don't know if this is common knowledge and don't shoot the messenger, this has come via John Barnes apparently, that Parry took a million pounds bung from Hicks and Gilette when we were negotiating takeover talks.

Apologies if this is common knowledge, has anyone else heard it?

I wonder how John Barnes would know anything about that?
 
Hadn't heard that. The allegation I heard nearer the time was that Parry pushed H and G's bid because he knew DIC didn't rate him and he'd be out on his ear if DIC took over.
 
Unknown to me, but certainly not a schocker if true...

Mr Barnes himself would probably need a bung as he is bankrupt?

I hate that Crusty the Cunt Clown.

He's probably one of the most useless, clueless Football Execs to ever have graced the game.

Fuck knows how he made it to the top.

He is not clueless at all. He was largely involved in setting up the Premier League and in particular negotiating the deal with Sky. That pretty much changed the face of English football.

I know he is not popular on here but I don't think its correct to dismiss him as an idiot by any means

yep I heard that when the deal actually went through, it also coincided with stories that parry's phone was off the entire time when the DIC were trying to get in touch with parry to find out what the heck was going on.

Haha. So not only did he turn his mobile off when poor old Stevie wanted a new contract, but when they A-rabs were in deep negotiations? You couldn't make it up. Way to go Rick......

I think that's the reason the DIC were so pissed off as the first they heard of the yanks approach was in the media so when they tried to find out what the hell was going on (ringing parry to no avail) they pulled out (fnar fnar) rather than risk more embarrassment.
so parry for a few million sold his boyhood club down the river. I would say how does he sleep at night but I suspect he sleeps just fine.

The Parry hatred is well overdone at this stage. He wasn't great at his job but he kept the books balanced and everything that was made was reinvested in the squad at that stage.

And people really need to get over the Yanks v DIC thing. We would be a heavily indebted company regardless of who took over.

I've never triumphed DIC's cause, I was just passing on the info. Maybe 'bung' is far fetched but its not far fetched to suggest G&H gave him assurances or incentives to opt for them.

I wouldn't be surprised if Parry was just a puppet for "the snake" Purslow, who'd been secretly masterminding our downfall for some years in secret.
 
It's this simple - as Moores already pointed out - the board are obliged to put the higher offer to the shareholders. Failure to do that can lead to a minority shareholder taking a case against the board - which is what Morgan and Granada were prepared to do.

There is no big conspiracy.

The second para doesn't follow from the first. The questions which have been raised concern what happened (or didn't happen) in the period leading up to the higher offer.
