You're right. He arrived with great expectations that he had Gerrard-esque potential as a central midfielder, and while, predictably, he's not quite developed to suit that prediction he's still a really good prospect. He needs to build up his strength, but he's a really promising player, full of ideas and great vision, and he scores goals too.
