Got it licked: Stevie G looks into the distance as Rodgers unveils mind game

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has opened himself up to more scrutiny after being filmed playing a bizarre psychological game on his players.
The new Anfield boss has been criticised for allowing TV cameras into his club for reality TV series Being Liverpool, which is being screened in the UK by Channel 5.
And fans will be astonished by the latest episode, which will be shown this Friday.
In it, Rodgers is seen addressing an eve-of-season team meeting while holding up three envelopes.
The former Swansea boss tells his squad he has written in them the names of three players who "will let us down this season".

What's he on about?: Players look stunned by Brendan Rodgers' 'three envelopes' speech

Captain Steven Gerrard looks stone-faced as Rodgers then tells players "don't be one of those names". Other players appear similarly baffled.
The clip was filmed the night before Liverpool opened their season with a 3-0 defeat at West Brom.
Rodgers - embarrassed when the show revealed his home featured a large painting of himself - is known for embracing new forms of man-management.
But this one, which implies he is beginning the campaign with little faith in a significant percentage of his side, is hard to fathom.
Comment below to let us know the names of the three players you think Rodgers might have named in his envelopes.
That is, if he's actually written anything in them at all...
Being Liverpool is exclusively on Channel 5 on Friday at 9pm.

Oh good god! How the hell have we gone from Champions league finalists to a laughing stock within 5 years?

I thought it was gonna be the shag, marry, murder game.

I already had it worked out too.... 😳

Ferguson did this years ago, and that worked out pretty well.

Could be an idea if we stopped overanalyzing everything in this series.

City will be buoyed by the fact that they’ve won the Premier League. But the second year is always the difficult one, and the challenge for top players is if they replicate what they’ve just done. That was always the job at Manchester United. I remember the first year we won it. Mr. Ferguson came in and said: “I’ve got a number of names in this envelope and these names will let us down if we allow them to think we will do it again just because we have done it once.” He never told us the names in the envelope. Probably there weren’t any names. But he’d got us all thinking that we had to show him that it wasn’t us.

Downing 1/8 FAV to be one of them.

I am suprised he does not have 5 or 6 envelopes...

I can't believe some are trying to put a positive spin on such a wretchedly boneheaded piece of nonsense.

Okay. Cuddles. We all need cuddles, okay? Now, at some point during this season I'm going to give each and every one of you a really long and lovely cuddle, so I am, okay? But I have to start somewhere, okay? And in these envelopes I've written down the lucky three players who will get their cuddle before all of the rest, okay...?

Agreed - It's all embarrassing shite.

Where is the positive spin? Its been done before, so why overreact to it?
People seem more hellbent on finding stuff in the series to throw at Rodgers.

"He adressed the players with 3 blank envelopes in an attempt to get a underperforming overpaid bunch of gutless lads to step up, hang him!"

It's so fucking obvious it's insulting. I'm beginning to doubt BR immensely. As GK rightly said - He better start winning. All this pseudo psychology rubbish is doing my head in.

EDIT : Some of this stems from the 'Being Liverpool' doco - Which was incredibly ill judged imo.

I do feel sorry for him that he's been obliged to start his career here whilst this film crew tracks his every move. It's tough enough anyway without this tosh.

As I've said before whats the point of overeacting to Being Liverpool.
He should be judged after the season on what kind of improvement we've made on the pitch, not his methods or touchy feely okay vocabulary.

If you look at my earlier post in the Being Liverpool thread I clearly say I think this is the best episode yet and I also list what I liked about it, so you can't try to make out I'm just being critical of everything. And as for 'overreacting' about this scene, that's your opinion, nothing more, so less of the lecturing.

Not having a go at you mate, and I read your opinion about episode 4. The whole thread about Being Liverpool is filled with overeactions. In my honest opinion obviously.

Believe me I want what everyone wants on this site. A bit of success. It's far too early to judge BR. I have to say though he's not helping himself with this name in an envelope bollocks. It's like something someone from HR would do during induction at a call centre.
