Liverpool FC have declared an interest in MK Dons teenager Dele Alli - but are yet to table a formal offer for the midfielder.
The 18-year-old is widely considered as one of the brightest talents outside the Premier League and former Reds academy coach and current Dons boss Karl Robinson has spoken highly of his prize asset.
Last season was a breakthrough campaign for the England U18 international as he netted six times in 33 appearances.
There is competition for Alli from England's elite clubs with Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United all monitoring his situation.
But the ECHO understands the Reds are yet to take their interest any further at this stage.
Speaking in March after the youngster notched his first senior hat-trick Robinson said: "He is one of the most gifted 17-year-olds this country has ever seen.
"I've said from the word go, he's as good as it gets and he's the best young player I've ever worked with."
Alli has already drawn comparisons with Reds skipper Steven Gerrard and earlier this year.
Robinson said: "He's a scary talent and arguably the best central midfielder in the country for his age.
"We know there's going to be a multi-million pound bid for Dele one day, but it's important he stays where he belongs [for the time being].
"I see him as a young Steven Gerrard, who had a similar frame and build to him. He needs to learn to score more goals and is getting better at that."
