I'm a bit surprised that Zanka's 'grown' this fast over the past 6 to 8 months after a very mediocre year before that but now this central defender looks ready for a big move very soon.
When first introduced as a 17-year-old at FC Copenhagen he looked extremely talented but then he had a a year or two where he struggled to keep his place for the Copenhageners. Now, however, he's been a pivotal influence with regards to their success in the Champions League and last night he kept Cisse completely quiet untill the French striker was subbed late on. It even looked like he matched him for pace? (Not confirmed)!
His agent, former Derby full-back Jacob Laursen (one I never rated as a footballer btw and the complete opposite to Zanka in terms of style, figure and play) has commented a bit on this apparent stagnation in his developments untill around last Spring: He told that Zanka mastered almost every aspect of the game at a very young age, had great pace, great strength, good technique, physique and intelligence and that he somehow was lulled into the belief that he was already the finished article. He obviously wasn't/isn't and now he's completely changed his ways mentally and wants to improve himself on a daily basis.
Some of it is agents talk but it's obvious when watching him play that his concentration-level and determination is far better than ever before. This combined with his overall impressive attributes makes him into a potential world class defender.
We've been sniffing around Zanka before and if there's one club around Europe you'd reckon Roy was looking at for a bargain these days FC Copenhagen would be a good bet.
Can't see him move on in the January-window but come Summer perhaps. Would fetch around the same fee as Agger I'd reckon.
