Realistic alternatives to Benteke

Who would yours be? There really aren't too many top strikers around on the continent we could have a good chance of buying - I'd like Aubameyang but even he might prove too expensive or tough to get out of Dortmund.

What about the players Spurs have been after, though? Anthony Martial, at Monaco. He's only 19 so not really what we need, but he seems to have huge potential and has the major advantage of being both attainable and suitable. Supposed to be available for £18-20m. The next Lacazette?

OP, why you putting yourself through this, only to disappointied.

If BR gets his way Bentake will come in

I don't know... I don't see £20M potential's worth of striker in that video. Not when Origi cost us £12M.

You are right though, it's a very limited market which will escalate prices. Bacca and Rondon don't interest me in the slightest. Bacca only scores in the 6 yard box and plenty of goals are penalties and Rondon is playing in such a shite league I think it renders his stats meaningless.

Ideally we need someone at least 22/23 who can come in bang some goals in from day 1 with plenty of potential. I don't know if they exist, but its what I'd be looking for.

The only one I can think of who wouldn't be extortionate is the Korean guy at Leverkusen.

Personally I think Martial looks quality on Youtube, FWIW, but his lack of experience is obviously the problem.

I think Rondon looks shit tbh, and Bacca has as much wrong about him as right. We'd probably be as well signing Benteke as either of those two, if I'm totally honest.

I had Martial in my FIFA 15 Colchester team, was superb. Joking aside, Aubameyang is more of a second striker / winger isn't he? I suppose he could play off any of our other three in a front two, so shouldn't be a problem, he just doesn't seem like the kind of striker we (rightly or wrongly) want to sign. I was going to say his goalscoring record wasn't that great either, but a quick google shows I'm a fool seeing as he's got 30 in 67 for Dortmund, very impressive, I'd be happy with him.

It's a shame Bacca is going for such a large price, as I reckon he would fit in nicely, but I'm not happy paying over £20million for a 29 year old. Alternatively, Doumbia from CSKA seems like a good shout, he's scoring one in two, and did great against City in the champions league, however he is playing in a much weaker league, his international record is appalling, and we probably have zero interest in him anyway.

The transfer committee and Rodgers better not panic when August comes and no top strikers are available.
I'd much rather take our chances with what we have currently than forking out 25 million on Benteke or 15 million on Austin.
Put the money away and wait till a top striker becomes available rather than being fucking ridiculous on deadline day or whatever.
Morata would have being absolutely perfect if we got there before Juve last summer.
He has the Raul knack about him but works much harder.
Terrible shame we never followed up on our interest.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll even have to panic to end up with Benteke. He's obviously the preferred target.

My bet is we get him for a compromised fee of something like £28m.

I wouldn't bring in another young striker when Origi and Ings are arriving.

Someone with a bit of experience is needed. Bacca screams 'career year - stay away'. He's played ages in shitty leagues and not been that prolific - one season of 20 goals at age 28 screams regression to the mean coming up. Sevilla know this which is why they will happily sell him.

For that reason if it's down to the two Rondon is my choice. His goal record wouldnt put me off, but I also wouldn't be that keen on spending 20m on him.

I think I'd be inclined to wait until January unless someone unexpectedly becomes available

It seems that way.
It will take the gloss off the decent business that's done already.
Thoroughly depressing.

His last two seasons are 34 in 71, and the season before was 25 in 35, so it's not as bad as you suggest, but I do share your concerns. It could go either way, an experienced player end front could really benefit our team, however he could also tank like lots of players do his age. I'd be happy to gamble on him for anything under £20million, but not for anymore.

Spending 30M-odd on Benteke cos there's no one else good enough or available enough isn't a good enough reason.

Just wait a year.

They dont want to sell him. They'll sell him if the release clause is met.

Bacca would be a great option. Similar to Suarez in playing style and has all the attributes we need in our striker.

21,3 mill for 3 good seasons is worth it. Our frontline needs a bit of experience..

Prolific? Yes.

Sevilla 2013–14 35 14 1 0 16 7 0 0 53 21
2014–15 36 20 3 1 15 7 1 0 55 28

He's a very good striker. Two very impressive seasons for Sevilla.

Realistically, if we have 25 odd mill to burn on a striker then Aubameyang should obviously be first on the list.
Doutbful if Dortmund will sell though.

Lacazette has already ruled us out and I dont think 25 mill would do it either. Aulas is a dick when it comes to transfers.

Rondon and Bacca are two good alternatives.

Benteke is a good striker but not what we need. And certainly not at that price.

Baccas agent has already confirmed he would be interested if we made an attempt to sign him.
Hopefully we dont wait to long on Benteke and miss out on our other, and imho, more suitable options.

@ILD

Hansern needs to be told how stupid he is being. Can I tell him?

Your being incompetent as usual. But thats nothing new. I bet you've never seen him play once.
But who cares as long as you can be a dickhead. Can someone please invent the ignore a mod function? This site needs one.

I don't particularly want Benteke, Ronndon or Bacca.

Save the money, sell players (Balo, Borini, Lambert) and throw money at Aulas for Lacazette (and his agent), or Real for Benzema.

Failing that, wait until Jan and see how Ings/Origi/Firmino do.

This kid Martial looks the real deal though. He's probably going to be the next young player we should have signed before he explodes elsewhere. Mind you, I don't think he'd get the game time here to do that right now, so it doesn't matter.

I wish we could have got the Sassoulo kid ...

I'd rather we offer Tevez silly money to get him for 1-2 years ... best option 'available'.

You want prem proven and less then £15m which will leave you enough money for other positions then you want to be talking about Charlie Austin

You don't need to have seen him play to know that a 28 year old with two years of top flight football under his belt is a bad idea.

Its easy to spot the bad deals,. I'd never seen Aspas or Alberto play either

Just seen that Luca Toni banged in 22 league goals this year for Hellas Veronia and finished highest scorer at 38!

Amazing stuff.

16 league goals for Wolfsberg aged 26. Never seen him. Newcastle sniffing around him and Wolfsberg are mocking their interest.

Just signed a new contract today. Could be to increase his valuation/Monaco's bargaining power though.

[article]Up-and-coming striker Anthony Martial has extended his contract with Monaco until 2019.

The 19-year-old Martial scored nine goals in 35 league matches this season as Monaco secured Champions League football for the second straight year. Gifted with huge physical qualities and technical skills, Martial is often compared to Thierry Henry and is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in French football.

Martial, who was courted by other European clubs, said "we made a big season, the one to come is exciting too. Hopefully I'll be able to repay the confidence I've been given."

Martial, who joined Monaco from Lyon in 2013, was good enough to relegate veteran forward Dimitar Berbatov to the bench this season.[/article]
