Astonishing article if true. He claims that LFC lied to Torres about his knee injuries to get him to play more. By Jan 2011 LFC knew his knee injuries meant he would never be the same player, wanted to sell him and failed to disclose the injuries to Chelsea. Also, despite Torres desire to leave earlier in January the deal didn't happen until the last minutes of the window and Chelsea never had time to do a full medical.

Torres and associated journos have always maintained there was more to his exit than LFC insisted. LFC party line was that Suarez was being bought to partner Torres.

I'm sceptical however. Why was the state of his knee not picked up by the Spanish medical team at any point?

At first, I was thinking is was a disgrace for the club to be lying to the player about the state of the injury, but the more I think about it, the more I'm ok with it. It's irrelevant whether the player knows how injured he is. If he believes he's injured, he'll hold back and give himself an excuse. The onus is on the club's medical staff to ensure we managed his treatment and rehabilitation properly, rather than rush him back.

Also, fuck Chelsea, they should have done the medical so good business by us. Shame we screwed it up by buying Carroll.

Just looks like a bunch of hearsay and speculation dressed up as a grand conspiracy. Bit desperate really. LFC, CFC and the Spanish national team all implicated in mismanagement and no attributable quotes from anyone.

Allegations of 'false or incomplete information' being given are quite serious. That and the laughable assertion that Chelsea would not carry out a proper medical when making an investment of £50 million make this one of those conspiracy stories only taken up by the susceptible.

Wasn't that one of the rumours doing the rounds when Torres was sold.
Some one on here, (I can't remember who, might have been Mark Mc), was adamant that they knew the doctor who had travelled to do the medical on Torres and that it didn't get done until after the transfer was completed

So if he never knew about his injuries, what was the reason for him sulking for the majority of his last season with us?

I don't believe for a minute the club would have knowingly let one of their prize assets wreck his own body. That's absurd. As for Chelski, I'd be surprised if they paid £50m without giving the player a proper medical, but if they did, tough.

There would be no need for the Spanish medical team to assess the long-term condition of his knee. They are only bothered about the next game, the next tournament, etc. Unless Torres was complaining personally to them about a pain, I don't see why they have investigated.

I also don't believe Liverpool would deliberately lie to Torres about his condition, maybe they didn't tell him the whole truth...

And I do think we made the deal go to the last minute so a medical would be rushed through. I'd like to think that. It makes it funny.

It's funny.
The article tries to portray Rafa as a good guy in all of this and potentially a saviour of Torres and his career.
Yet it was Rafa who was in charge during the season that Torres had his two knee injuries so it must have been him that was getting Torres to play despite knowing that he wasn't fully fit to do so.

Didn't Torres go back to Spain a few times to see a knee specialist? I"ll be surprise if he didn't know the extent of his injuries

So in the space of half an hour we have numerous different speculations about who did what and when and if and maybe and....

It's all made up to suit a theory which has taken a couple of years to mysteriously surface. I bet the writer is sitting in his room giggling at the numpties giving it credence. We need Jen Chang to have a word with him.

This shit always happens with long term serious injuries, with different parties involved over time everyone has their opinion, everyone knows best and the people that managed the problem previously always got it wrong if it doesn't heal. So there's all sorts of accusations of lies and neglect.

It sounds like a collection of such accusations and rumours formed into a story

Yeah there's clearly nothing wrong with Torres. And this was all rumoured at the time.

You get dimmer by the post Jexy

I nail it every time and you can't come back with anything except personal abuse which is a bit sad but it's where you are.

This was a big rumour at the time and one of the reasons LFC left the medical so late apparently

I started by telling you that you were 100% wrong, as have others. The only thing you nail is the wrong answer every time.

Nah you're just ready to believe anything. Nobody suggested I was wrong or mentioned me they just said quite independently there was a rumour at the time. There are always rumours about all sorts of things.

gkmacca has it right about in my opinion, it's an implausible situation.

Who is this clown who wrote the article? We got 50mil for a player who fucked up his knee and no longer want to play for us so whats the big deal now?

if this is true who give's a fuck , it's chelsea's problem if they didn't do a proper medical . Fuck them , fuck torres .

Did you write the article?

Well it's fair to say, Chelsea would have a good case if it were true that we withheld and/or deceived them over his injuries, so as said, it sounds like an elaborate stab at creating a conspiracy.

I always thought Torres fucked himself up by playing in a world cup he had no business playing in.

Yup! Exactly what I thought.
And another thing.. When he had those two surgeries. Did LFC staff sedate him before and after visiting the hospital/clinic's operation room?
Cause you'd imagine the surgeon would have spoken to him about his condition pre and post operation.

The bit about Liverpool hiding his condition to Chelsea is plausible but there's no chance he wouldn't have known about his condition himself.

As if there's a Torres conspiracy. He wanted off so he went.

I can't get my head round anyone thinking that he wouldn't leave to win things. That there needs to be more to it.

He'd made that step before, a much more difficult choice, when he left his boyhood club Atleti to come to us.

The kid had form. It's like when you start seeing a bird and she's with some other dude. He's a nice guy, she kinda loved him, but you convince her to ditch him. You can't really moan when it happens to you next.

It's worth remembering aswell, that we'd look pretty stupid getting all high and mighty about how right we were to cash in for that brilliant £50m, when the outcome is a North East Donkey and two North East Pony's.

What if that bird was walking around with a strap-on dildo that had the words 'Woland's cock will never walk alone' while going out with the nice lad?
