I've just looked and Real haven't bought anyone for their first team since 14/15 when they bought Kroos.

And since then their spending has been:
2015 - ~60mill net spent
2016 - ~7mill profit
2017 - 80mill profit

This summer they've bought Vinicius and Odriozola for about 70mill, but they might not be for the 1st team either, whilst letting Ronaldo go so they're running a profit again.

Considering they're spending no money, and what they've achieved over that period, that's ridiculous. Surely they must have one of their stupid summers up their sleeve where they go and buy Neymar, Kane, Kante, De Gea etc

They broke the 80M barrier twice back when everyone was sweating about spending 20M on a player. Then there was 30-40M each on the likes of Alonso, Isco, Kroos, Modric and Benezema.

They spent serious money building an incredible team. In recent years they've reigned it in and spent smartly on youth (or tried to) and we'll see where that gets them when the old guard moves on.

They'll undoubtedly go down in the history books as a great team but I don't think they are. They've had some amazing individual players - one especially - but they've underachieved in the league and gotten lucky in the CL imo.

I'm not saying that to be bitter, you gotta make your own luck (or take advantage of the luck you're given) so fair play... but meh.

One of the positive things about the new inflated transfer market is that it is now not possible for teams like Madrid to spend 200 - 300 million to develop a very strong first team over one or two transfer windows. Earlier they could spend 80-100 on an elite level player and several Alonso level players for 30 million each and revamp overnight. With the Neymar transfer, it will be 100 million minimum on Alonso level talent.

I guess that is one of the reasons why Abramovitch is not spending as much as he used to. Earlier he could invest 100-250 million over three-five years and get a team guaranteed to win the league twice over five years. It is no longer the case.
