In the past we've been screwed over by them with macmanaman and owen. The sale of Arbeloa and more so xabi has probably the biggest transfer dealing mistakes for a very long time. If we needed the money so badly then we should've sold mascher. The sale of mascher would've allowed us to invest in other areas with out destablising our anchor.

We got 30M for Xabi which is a massive amount for an English club. We may miss him desperately, but we certainly were not "fucked over" by Real Madrid.

Real have taken/poached key players. If we had Xabi, I would guess that we might still be in the CL. We got £30m for him but because of his absence that could mean that progress we make will cost us more than £30m (his replacement Aquilini £15-20m) and failure to qualify for the next stage of the CL

Madrid fucked us over. Hmmm. Perhaps yes but its normally our fault for allowing them to.

Don't agree with Alonso or Arbeloa. Alonso wanted to go, maybe because Benitez didn't value him enough, who knows, but ultimately we got a good price. Not Madrid's fault that money appears squandered.
Arbeloa was reaching the last year of his contract and wanted out. Again, not Madrid's fault. By that time we had no negotiating power.
Its a similar case with both Owen and McManaman.

We got fucked over taking Morientes off them but again they didn't steal the money from us. Its Benitez's fault for agreeing to pay it.

Madrid do generally get what they want and are quite happy to fuck people over in the process. But we don't need to bend over!

Rafa long ago burnt his bridge with Xabi and he wanted gone. His departure was a nice "fuck you" to Rafa and I'm sure it is a bitter sweet scenario for him to see a team and supporters that he loves stumbling but at the same time seeing the stick that Rafa is getting.


As for Arbeloa - he had no interest in being a back up to Johnson so was always going to go; we didn't do too badly out of the transfer either.
