Even when we do recognise young talent there's a strange neuroticism that creeps into consciousness and makes us feel insecure unless we also bring in one or two experienced stop gaps. Look back over the last 20 or so years - look at all those non-entities we wasted time and money on while decent young talent either atrophied or became alienated. How many Josemis, Dossenas, Degens, Kromkamps and Xaviers do we need to get before we realise how many promising young players they've blocked and broken? Isn't this supposed to be some brave new age? If so, act like you believe in it.
