Raul Meireles

He's disappointed me if I'm honest.

I don't see him as an improvement upon Aquilani. It's still early days though and at worst he's been steady, so im prepared to give him some time and see what he can come up with

Half the squad has - Pepe, Konchesky, Meireles, Shelvey. That cheers me up slightly.

Back to topic, I think Meireles will be ace. There's someone he reminds me of but I can't put my finger on it right now.

I like him, he clearly has good game intelligence, good passer and clearly likes a shot. Just hate it when Roy plays him right wing, sacrificing him for either dumb or dumber.

He's an improvement upon Aquilani simply because he's not made of dust.

Agree with Sunny - he's looked decent so far. No more nor less than that. I think he needs to be given a run at CM, ideally with the same partner, before we make any definitive judgments.

No improvement on Aquilani ? Apart from you actually see him on the pitch that is. Raul has done well for me and, given it's still early days for him, I think there's more from him to come. He's never going to be an outstanding player but he's the type of player who can make a team tick over - something we've missed since the departure of Alonso (and that's not a comparison). I think he's a better player than Aqualani for sure though. Aqualani has undoubted natural talent but, let's face it, he's a lazy sicknote fucker.

I like him. Great attitude, workrate, touch, composure, and willingness to get in the box.

He's not xavi, or even xabi, but it's nice to have a signing live up to the reputation and pricetag for a change.

He'll get better too.

He's an improvement on Aquilani because he isn't a spineless shithouse made out of sticklebricks who was scared to play football in the Premiership.

He's our second-best CM player, which isn't saying much, but there you go.

Ha, when fit and on the ball there doesn't appear to be much discernible difference though.

Although yeah, the fact that he's not made of matchsticks helps his cause in a top trumps play off.

Like Aqua, I'd like to see him played in a more advanced role.

Seems a good player to me. Its not easy coming into a side that is struggling and that is so cautious.

He's an improvement on Aquilani simply on account of the fact that he is available to play once in a while.

He's dynamic, has a good touch and isn't afraid to shoot. I like him. He's everything that Joe Cole has yet to show.

His touch is excellent.

Only a complete misrable twat would be 'disapointed' with him..

Great player - Very happy we signed him..

However.. Roy is a tosser and has no idea where to play anyone.

Some, er, very constructive comments there GT.

I think he looks dead good.

I was worried, what with him coming from a shithouse league that only plays 20 odd games a season, that he'd be made of biscuits and always rolling round on the floor, and knackered by 60 mins, but he seems to be a pretty cool guy eh plays good footy and doesn't afraid of anything.

I don't think he is cut out for the advanced role or the role outwide.

He has to be either played as a CM or DM, both roles he has played before in his previous clubs.

In a way Blackburn was his first game in a role more familiar to him. I liked what i saw.

He is very mobile. He doesn't have bundles of Pace, but he is fairly quick. He has got a fantastic work rate.

He has solid technique. Nothing to make him stand out, but his touch and passing does not let him down often, and he does like to pass it forward. He is genuinely ambidextrous...so much so, i'm still not able to say which is his preferred leg.

Stays on his feet and does the defensive side of his job very well. A bit Xabiesque in this regard.

I want to see more of him at CM.

Mind you, it's been hard to get my head round the fact that him looking good has coincided with our worst run of form since slavery was abolished.

Sorry. Im sick of the negativity around here. Meireles has been one of the few positive factors this season. He obviously has bags of talent and his game intelligence is a huge improvement on a load of the crap we have had to put up with over recent years..

He is new to the league but has still been very consistant. He is a CM being played out of position.. I genuinelly fail to see how anyone can view him as being disapointing..

considering we have had players like Lucas, Nunez, Josemi, Poulsen, Pennant, Dossena, Voronin im fucking flabbergasted people can be even remotely disapointed with him.. seriously.

I think most people are happy with him GT. Only one poster has found him dissappointing.

I agree he's a CM most definitely. Playing him more advanced than Gerrard is just stupidity.

Good player. I like him. He is good on the ball, and moves when he hasvent got it.

I would like to see him and Aquaman play together!

I really like Meireless. He was the one bright spark against Everton last week and he built on it this week. I like his attitude as he's willing to get stuck in, which is great. I think we need to stick with him in a deeper role with Gerrard further up.

I think he'll prove to be a really good signing. He's already becoming one of my favourite players, although that isn't too tough with this team.
