Reina - 7 - Didn't have a great deal to do. However when called upon he was there.
Kelly - 6.5 Didn't have much to do at the back looked lost at times going forward.
Agger - 7 Not much to do at the back but like the way he brought the ball forward or passed it forward to a player and not hoof.
The Greek - 7 Steady game by big Nick. Looked a threat from corners something we lack big time.
Konchesky - 6.5 Tried to get forward final product not always there.
Meireles - 7.5 kept the game ticking over always moving in to space looking for the ball and not holding it for two long. Dose the simple things really well. Good debut.
Spearing - 7 Again done the simple things well some good tackles unlucky with the slip that lead to the goal.

Lucas looked good when he came on... looked like he had been given more incentive to roam and create.
Meireles was very composed and neat. Spearing was impressive. Started to look more like the talent we saw in the reserves a couple of years back.. both struggled in the first half- our tactics were shite and gave us no chance. They sat back and pressured in their own half... i think the goal scared our lads and as such they were sitting quite deep. At times it was easily 10 vs 5 and our lads were still trying to dictate the tempo and as such we lost the ball regularly.
Ngog was shit. He didnt hold the ball up at all well. He was non existant during most of the game - Clinical infront of the goal. You could feel the tension and suprise when he stepped up to take the penalty.
Babel - some bits were good - some bits were shockingly shite. His mentality is so poor i dont think he can ever recover from his time with Rafa. Initally he looked very excited and interested. Some great tackling and pressure but when the team started struggling his confidence dropped considerably. Near the end he was always picking the easy, lazy option in the hope something would happen. I feel for the guy.. i think he needs to work with a sports psychologist to get over how much his emotions effect his game. i Remember reading somewhere that opposition fans in Holland would boo him as they knew it effected his game. He even admitted to this.. Not good.
Cole- some fancy tricks.. VERY FANCY... played well and unlike most little tricky fella's we have had looked to be involved all the time. Its easy for a player playing in the 'hole' to vanish but he was always making runs. good signs once the squad are all fit and on a role.
everyone else average - Konchesky tried a lot.. but didnt really happen for him. Kelly impressive defensively but going forward he looks a bit lost..

Gents, I realise that The Greek (Statue) is something of a favourite on the site, being the anti-hero he is, but are we being more than a little generous here?
Tall, broad and good in the air? So is the Oxo tower....and that's probably got a smaller turning circle and faster change of pace than our man Sotiris.

The Greek is a decent back up. Experienced and a good duell player. Not to bad on the ball either. The thing is that he, with all his limitations, is actually used as back up. He dont moan about it and he dont hide when called upon. People respect that.
There are far to many players of the same mediocre mould that is playing constantly, week in and week out for some, and they put in mediocre shifts all the way. And when they see stiffer competition brought in they are suddenly unsure about their future. If these players had been used as back up, and really showed up when called for, people would have respected them aswell.

That'll do for me as well. Perhaps only a 7 to Raul though as he was rather shaky in the first half.

I think Hodgson's trying to use Lucas as more of an attacking outlet, which some on here have advocated (ie SpionKop) 8)
