Plaudits go to the defence today. Not many teams go to Old Trafford and don't concede a goal when they're down to ten men.

Pepe (7)- Poor distribution, but was solid enough throughout. Great string of saves from a man who die for this club.

Aurelio (7) Kept Nani quiet for most of the match. Caught out once, but otherwise was good.

Kelly ( 8 ) Another classy performance and our MOTM.

Agger ( 8 ) Impressive. Settled back into the side very well.

Skrtel ( 8 ) Defended like a rock today. None of the lapses he's shown in recent weeks. Good to see.

Lucas (7) Chased shadows for much of the game, but he worked hard, played sensibly and made a few nice passes. We needed him to play more dynamic after Gerrard went off, but sadly he lacks the talent for it.

Meireles (5) Pulled out of loads of challenges, few shots flying over the bar. Bad day at the office.

Kuyt (4) Agricultural and lacking finesse. Another one of his off days. Poor.

Maxi (6) Bit better, but offered little in truth.

Gerrard (4) I don't think it was a red card, but he should have known better, and it cost us our best player.

Torres (4) Abject.

---------------------

Babel - (6) Showed a bit of life when he came on. Nice to see.

Shelvey (5) Talented and confident player no doubt, good experience for him. Didn't do much of note.

N'gog (5) Lively again, but he wasn't in the box when the ball was getting crossed into the box, which isn't acceptable.

I think a 4 for Kuyt is harsh. He did a lot of good work defensively if nothing else.

Ratings Man U vs LFC

Reina 8 - Kept us in the game.

Kelly 9 - MOM, kdidn't put a foot wrong during the entire game. Remember he was up against Evra and Giggs.

Skrtel 7 - Worked hard.

Agger 7 - Shouldnt have given Berbatov the chance to dive but all in all a good performance.

Aurelio 5 - Nice freekick but he was poor defensively.

Lucas 6 - Decent performance, tackled well, worked hard. Typical Lucas performance.

Meireles 6 - His passing was erratic at times. But his partnership with Lucas is promising.

Gerrard 0 - Stupid challenge. Cost us the game.

Maxi 5 - Did fuck all.

Kuyt 5 - Did fuck all.

Torres 6 - Tried, but with Gerrard sent off. It was inevitable that he'd end up Isolated up front.

Gerrard 0 ? That's a bit emotional isn't it ? Yeh he fucked up but to say he did nothing is well harsh

He cost us the game. 30 min in and do that, when were really standing up to Man U. That warrants a zero.

Yeah, but that stupid freekick Shelvey hit pissed me off and cost him a point.

Riena (8) - he's not in the team for his distribution (although he can do much better) - he's there to strop the ball going in to the net whic bar the penalty (which he wasn't far off) he did... very well.

Kelly (7) - encouraging - but let's not go overboard - the lad did well - but he wasn't the standout player.

Aurelio (7) - decent performance - so close with the free kick - please stay fit...

Skrtel (7) - Best performance of the season by him - more like the player we know he can be.

Agger (7) - thought he did well -apart from being conned in to that stupid challenge in the first minute - our defence seeed to step us ab=]ne be "organised" for a change and I'll give Agger some credit for that. In Carragher's absence he's our best defender - please sta fit....

Lucas (6) - Needs too much time to pick out a decent pass - but is disciplined and works hard for the team - he's such a limited player though - he' needs someone talented beside him.

Merieles (5.5) - If Lucas is our new Mascherano then Raul is our new Alonso - his passing was poor and he can (and will ) have better days - pressed well, but the quality wasn;t there, going forward, when it was needed.

Kuyt (6) - Can only describe that as a Dirk performance - worked his socks off - but ultimately hard work is a limited subsititute for creativity.

Gerrard (6) - The decision could have gone either way (just), but it's not the first time we've seen him dive in like that... and it won't be the last. His best position has always been the free role to link midfield and attack - nice to asee hoim back there, although at timesw he was a little too deep.

Maxi (6) - played like Maxi does - played well for bits and then went missing for bits - he's not bad - has a decent touch and works hard - the end product is sometimes lacking, but he's ok.

Torres (5.5) - He tried - but the confidence is not there - the touch is not there - isolated at times and too deep to do anyting, but when he was presented with opportinuties in areas that you would expect him to do something.... it didn't happen... The system Dalglish played will get much more out of him than in Hodgepoidge's system, but it will take time..

Subs :-
Babel (5) - usual flash of somthing decent followed by nothing of note.
Shevley (5) - did "ok" despite a horrendous waste of a free kick.
N'Gog (5) - like Babel - one nice flick and then nowt.

Pretty much spot on

Squiggs, I thought that was spot on on the whole until I read your usual expression of kuyt love. He was worth more than that, his workrate alone was pleasing, Maxi is fucking shit.

1st half 2nd half.

Reina - 6 + 10 - not much to do TBH / fantastic !
Aurelio - 6 + 7 - one mistake but otherwise it's so nice to have him at LB. Ditto first half.
Agger - 6.5 + 8 - apart, maybe, from THAT error. Great performance in the 2nd half when under much more pressure.
Skrtel - 6.5 + 8 - good game. / See Agger's 2nd half.
Kelly - 7.5 + 8 - impressive throughout. MOTM.
Gerrard - 8 - ... and then, oh dear, never a red.
Meireles - 7 & 6 - great control and spreading the play / faded but still his quality is obvious.
Lucas - 5.5 & 7 - not really in the game much and getting picked off, needs to wake up. / Much better - sterling 2nd half performance.
Maxi - 5.5 & 4 - see Lucas. / 2nd half : AWOL.
Kuyt - 6.5 + 7 - a better match but not creating enough. / Energy and errr
Torres - 5 + 6.5 - he's had half chances but lack of control has let him down. / Not much better but I have to say at least he was trying.

Babel - 6- great start then faded away like a fart in the wind.
Shelvey - 6- didn't really contribute much except energy, though give him time.
N'Gog - 5 - did he really replace Torres ? Didn't notice him, not his best cameo.

Meant to say aswell, I agree re Kelly being MOTM, he had to play against the best player on the pitch too. Great performance from a top youngster.

Makes you wonder why he hasnt been used more. Should be a pemanent fixture in the team by now

If that performance is Torres 'trying' (trying ffs, we shouldn't even be mentioning the word...) then his head-down, hunched-shouldered strolling around OT display should mean he'll be MOTM every game til season's end. He was pathetic, KK should have taken him off earlier and even then ignored him as he came off the pitch.

Can anyone imagine Dalglish/Rush/Beardsley etc walking around like that against ManU?

One pivotal man down, isolated up front he did what he could. It didn't get any better with Ngog's introduction.

but he was doing that BEFORE the sending off. sorry - no excuses for a player of his stature. Commenting positvely that he 'tried' says everything.....my 8-y-old 'tries' every single time he plays all three sports he plays, coz he likes trying.

Well, I can't say I expected anything else than a defeat, but I was pretty pleased with the increased urgency, and some improved displays in defence. Unfortunately, we did nothing good in midfield or attack, so mwe didn't really merit anything from the game.
Wonderful to see Kenny back, although that was as much to do with the fact that Budgie was gone.

Reina (7). A series of wonderful stops to keep the scored down, but some dodgy moments.

Kelly (8). It's a cliche to say that he "looks the part", but he really does look the part. Great display; tall, bit of pace, confident. Oh yes.
Agger (7). Perhaps a touch unlucky for the penalty, but there was contact. Otherwise played well. Hope he can stay fit.
Skittles (7). Needed a good display after some terrible performances. Duly gave one.
Aurelio (6). A couple of mistakes and he often looks quite an average defender. But still the best LB at the club by a mile.

Gerrard (5). I thought it was a harsh sending off. Before that he looked the best player on the pitch.
Lucarse (3). Typical Lucarse display: chased the ball about like a retarded puppy, did fuck all with it when he had it, lacked the power and physicality to exert any influence or control on the pitch. No idea what he does, really. Shite.
Ming (4). Disappointing in the challenge, and despite the occasional nice pass, needed to show more.
Kuyt (5). Energy and workrate. Needs to supply some offensive edge to his game please. Pretty please?
Maxi (2). Fuck off.

Torres (4). Looked totally knackered. Had no service. At least looked as if he had run about a bit when he was subbed.
