Wiz, It wasn't, he asked for it, he was stupid and was never going to get away with it.

if you say so - i've never seen a red card giving for something like that. if he had done it to the ref, ok. someone posted the 'red card' reasons in the match thread, babel didn't violate any of them ... again, you and andy are both extremely harsh on him no matter what he does - so i doubt you'd give him the benefit of the doubt here ... pity no one else came up to defend Torres ... Babel is a bastard for bothering to do that.

I've got yer back, Wiz. Yer man was advancing into him the whole time. It was a nonsense. By the letter of the law and all that, but no fucking way was that deserving of a red card.

Pat Nevin said as much too, and I agree. My only gripe is that he did it, and then he did it again. I think had he done it the once the ref would have given him the benefit, but he put his hand down and then did it again, which kind of left the ref with no option, at least in terms of 'playing by the book'. I thought the ref was terrible anyway, as I guess most do, Torres got kicked all over the park all game.
I thought Gerrard was better than most gave him credit for, at least in the second half where he was chasing everything down and was one of few looking to make something happen. I think too many have judged him on recent woes. He looked more determined, and if it didn't quite happen I think some should consider the fact we were down to 10 men for alot of the game.
We didn't get the rub of the green in a ground that's intimidating for officials. Oh well, we'll get our own back next week.
I thought they were largely shite, there was certainly no evidence of the side I was fearing ahead of the match.

That's the point there.
I agree about Torres getting no protection too, and I agree with Frank about the Portuguese players, as a nationality they are very nice people , but twats on the pitch.
Why were they so obsessed with the ref being wealthy.
