Ranieiri sacked

He must have sold his soul for last season. I'm surprised shadow demons haven't emerged and dragged his screaming soul into the inferno.

If not for the money and riches involved in the Premier League, in 'normal' circumstances, surely he will be given the chance to rebuild/get them straight back up even if they do get relegated.

Mourinho at Chelsea last season, Bob Bradley at Swansea earlier this season - talk about player power.

I don't agree with sacking him, but I get it. They are worried about relegation and think this will give them a shot in the arm to help keep them up. Going down could lead to a long time in the Championship. As for the senior players (if it is true) they are a disgrace. He helped them to an achievement (as well as recognition and money) the vast majority of them should have been nowhere near. You expect loyalty out of the players at least for that.

And the fact that pearson is a horrible cunt.

If you're of the view he deserves a lot of credit for winning the league, then surely it follows that the sack is deserved for the absolute collapse this year.

The reality is it looks like there are problems in the dressing room - you can't sack the team and replace them ... so Ranieiri had to go.

Kante is clearly a good player but to reduce Leicester's collapse to him going is more than a little simplistic.

Leicester are scoring 100% less than last season and conceding 50% more. There's a lot of Vardy regression in that, Mahrez has failed to reproduce his form too. Throw in European competition as well and a drop off was inevitable.

The transfer mistakes have just compounded the situation.

Resigning straight after winning a title in a story that resonated around the football world? That would have been an odd decision.

Surely. But whats left to achieve with Leicester? You can't reproduce the impossible and he would easily landed a hot shit job a little later. I guess maybe Inter could have turned to him when De Boer left. Of course didn't know that at the time but big clubs keep sacking managers and he will not be to attractive now.

24 goals in 25 games this seasson.

68 in 38 last season.

Its close enough
Fail.

If you gross it up it works out at 36.48 in 38 games. Lets round it down to 36

(68-36)=32
32/68=47% reduction.

Lets round up to 50% for generosity on your part.

Accountants... Tsssk.

Not really, considering his age and how many teams he has managed. Winning the title for the first time in his first season with Leicester, it'd have been a perfect 'mic drop' movement.

He's managed in the Champions League before and he obviously knew that Leicester wouldn't be able to replicate that success again.

Nico Rosberg saw it coming with Ranieri and did what Ranieri didn't do.

Klopp:
“What can I say? Am I surprised that things like this can happen? No. It is not only football. For me there have been a few strange decisions in 16/17: Brexit, Trump, Ranieri. Do I have to understand it all the time? Obviously not. I have no idea why Leicester did this. Everyone could see the situation in the league, the situation in the Champions League - which we are not in.
“He is a really special person in this business, a really nice guy. I met him before when he visited me at Dortmund and we had a nice talk. He is a wonderful person. Maybe you have to go to Leicester and ask them why they did it. I told the players at the beginning of the week Leicester now know exactly what the problem is and we should expect the best Leicester City. You saw the Champions League game and the reaction after they scored: it was like two different games before and after they scored. Obviously they needed this goal to get confidence back. We have to think about this side and that is difficult enough.”

Surprised there is such outrage.

Staying up is worth what $150m??

No room for sentiment.

In the last few weeks they've been dumped out of the FA Cup, lost in the CL and have been in total freefall in League at the exactly the wrong time. 5 losses in a row.

Ultimately a manager lives and dies with the teams results.

I'd like to have seen if he got past Sevilla but can't disagree with the decision at all.

Winning the title vs midtable =
Champions League campaign =
Additional TV revenues =
Additional merchandise sales off the back of success =

I don't think anyone would have had a problem if they went down and he was sacked.

Besides the parachute payments mean its not a £100m per season hit unless they stay down for over 3 seasons.

No, accountants are the ones who would go for the 50% figure. A stakeholder would look at it from the opposite angle of oh fuck, motherfucker, fuck you, now I need to make a 100% gain just to get back to breakeven. You should all look at it from my perspective, of a differential equation describing the geometry of Leicester City Football Club.

Jamie Carragher column: I hope @LCFC's players are ashamed. I'm raging over their role in Ranieri's sacking

do one.

he just won the most competitive league in any sport ,ever with a bang average side that EVERYONE thought would get relegated.

nobody expected them to be anywhere near the top this season and as above the parachute payments/merch and sponsorships from being league winners would likely cover any hits from being relegated .

put it this way, if whoever they bring in doesn't now keep them up, then heads need to roll

Well according to their official statement the board would have a huge problem with relegation so ya nah.

Nobody expected a repeat or anything close to it but the board expected them to at least survive easily which is now looking unlikely.

Leicester's wage bill was 18th highest in the league in 14/15
https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ue-finances-club-by-club-breakdown-david-conn (Dated May 2016)

Before 14/15, the last time they were in Premier League was in 03/04.

Even if they get relegated they can look upon Burnley as an example. Look where they are with stability and progress under Dyche now. The Thai owner should know better. They stuck with Nigel Pearson despite missing out on promotion in 12/13 and won promotion next. Chris Hughton at Brighton is another example of what stability can do.

The CL revenue + parachute payments should be more than enough to sustain a season in Championship and they get to ditch some woeful characters in the transfer window and rebuild. Besides, play contracts should have relegation wage drop clauses too.

If Ranieri deserves any credit at all for Leicester being Champions, then there must be equal responsibility on him for the worst title defence in living memory and being in the relegation zone.

Unless of course, managers don't really make that much difference.

Huth and Morgan were no longer allowed to suplex people in the box and they suddenly went shit. Its no surprise

With all due respect Pat.. You're wrong.

With all due respect

"However, domestic results in the current campaign have placed the club's Premier League status under threat."

"The decision was taken very reluctantly but the club's owners are desperate to avoid relegation and its consequences."

No I'm not.
