Not for the job Mascher does in our set-up, he wouldn't.  He's a lot better at supporting the attack than Mascher but he'd be bombing forward to do that at every opportunity, and when he does stay back his tackling is not as clean or consistent.  Either Stevie or Xabi (or both) would have to do more of the defensive stuff than they do now, and I don't think that would suit the way we play.

There were suggestions in the press shortly after he went that he'd had to be somewhat arm-twisted into the move. It wasn't so much that he didn't want to play for Juve, rather that he didn't want to leave here. I remember thinking he seemed a bit bewildered in at least one interview I saw with him while he was out there, and he certainly didn't need to be invited twice to come back.
