Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez does not expect to make any further signings for 'big, big money' after being linked with a bid for Franck Ribery.

Bayern Munich winger Ribery had been backed in to odds-on favouritism to join Liverpool following a summer of speculation over his future.

However, Benitez has seemingly ruled out a move for the France international, who has previously stated he would either stay at Bayern or join Real Madrid.

Having spent in the region of £17million to sign Glen Johnson from Portsmouth, Benitez is not planning any more major transfer deals.

"I will be really pleased if we can keep this squad together because I don't think we need to do too many things," said Benitez.

"I don't think we'll be signing anyone else for big, big money, just maybe the ones who can fit into our team.

"Right now we are just thinking of improving the fitness of the players, not thinking about the transfer market.

"We have the quality there and we will have our chances again."

Benitez's priority is trying to keep Javier Mascherano and Xabi Alonso at Anfield, with the midfield duo consistently linked with a move to Spain.

We must still have at least £20m to spend considering the money we got back from Keane. Plus, we're bound to offload some players freeing up more cash.

If we don't sign anyone else, then Rafa can have no more complaints about the strength of his team or squad this season.

We need a forward and rafa knows it. We're pretty fucked if Torres gets broken again, having n'gog, voronin and kuyt for cover.

Rafa also said we'd break our transfer record again this summer, he doesn't half talk some bollocks.

Considering their debt bellend, they will sell.

We definitely need someone, ideally who can cover at least two of the three forward roles. Riera did ok last season but I'm not convinced longterm, and the burden for Kuyt to carry on with last seasons form is heavy.

I'll be disappointed if our biggest signing is a right back. Much still depends though on whether Alonso and Masher stay, either one of their departures could blow things right open.

Valencia's debt has been wiped out

if they sell a player it will be Villa to Barcelona, they wouldnt sell both.

Agreed. In 'theory' Babel could do it - Left/Right/Upfront. But we know in practise that he never does. Silva can play L/R/In the whole.

I'm still concerned that we need someone that can get goals.

Since when? And why sell their best player to a team in the same league?
All clubs release statements saying players are not for sale, Atletico done it with Torres, outcome?

They have just been taken over and have apparently had their debt wiped out, Valencia won't sell players easily. they might allow Villa to leave but only for 40m+. they managed to resist bids from Madrid who went for Benzema instead so I think they're in a stronger position than you think

If we haven't much money left then £17m on a defender was a luxury we definitely couldn't afford.

We've been here before, season after season with Valencia, they whore their players during the season, then come the end of the season inflate their prices beyond the reach of any club.

Forget it, we ain't gonna get David Silva.

we only have 2 senior English players and need to watch our quota. Johnson is one of the best English players available so it's not a luxury. also, all very well saying we need a world class winger but look at the reality, teams are not doing business unless it is for big money which we don't have so it's all City and Madrid at the moment and maybe United if they decide to spend that money

Don't worry, according to my cryptic clues, Silva is a done deal for 28 million, blah, blah, blah.

I did think it was him too.

I knew it was him as soon as I saw the username. He's like a compulsive shoplifter who *wants* to get caught.

There do seem to be a few posters following this Blackie Grey/FatBottom around like a bad smell? If he does something to be banned for, ban him. But following him around calling him all the twats under The Lying Rag is just baiting.

[/quote]Thanks for that Mors we'll be sure to take that under advisement at the next 'guess which twat said this' review.

Yes, because just like the numerous other times he's darkened our shores, he only starts acting like a twat when he's baited doesn't he Mors.

He's a twat with a big fuck off twat of a head.

And he's a train-spotter.

Who wears girls undies.
