Three players from Knowsley to have lifted the European Cup?

Now I overheard this in a boozer, so didn't get the chance to ask further question, I assume it means as captain, now I know the two obvious ones.

If you don't get them, hang your head in shame boys, but I've not got the third. I suspect it may be a Nottingham Forest player, but I know enough to know McGovern captained one of them, & he's Scottish, so I'm really not sure!

Anyone got any ideas?

Echo gives two:

MANY special footballers have been given the honour of captaining Knowsley Schoolboys over the years.

And in talented teenager Joe Brooks, the district can count on another.

For the 15-year-old schoolboy is the also the skipper of three other teams. In addition, he is quietly making a name for himself at Liverpool FC’s famous Academy.

And if Joe is half as successful as two of the district’s former captains who both went on to lift European Cups in successive seasons in the 1980s – Liverpool’s Phil Thompson and Aston Villa’s Denis Mortimer – that would certainly add to the area’s great role of honour.

Thompson & Gerrard definitely.

Larry Lloyd was born in Bristol according to Wiki.

Dennis Mortimer it was indeed! Yay, means my guess about Villa was right! (though TBF once I'd ruled out anymore of our players it was the only logical route!).

Well done Jimmy! Four of us in the pub couldn't get that all bloody night! I was thinking Withe but my mate was certain he wasn't captain.

Gerrard was born in Huyton, which is Knowsley, unsure if he captained Knowsley schoolboys though.

A revised question which I don't know the answer to (maybe tranmere?)... What football league club plays the closest to the River Mersey?

It used to be Stockport County but they got relegated.

Looking at it on the map I think I might be right you know.

It's about a mile and a half as the crow flies at it's closest.
