By the way, my wife is due with our first child in two weeks so I think I'll be up at crazy hours anyway.

Congratulations.

One thing you may not have been warned about. It will now always take you at least half an hour longer to leave the house to go anywhere. No matter how prepared you are. It's truly bizarre how much time & energy these tiny people require from you, so worth it though.

So if you've been to Israel they won't let you in Pakistan or the uae? That's a bit mad that like, a holiday is a fucking holiday, should be up to you where you can go, politics should have no bearing whatsoever.

In principal i agree with what you saying, however the issue is that neither Pakistan nor UAE (not completely sure) recognize Israel, hence i am not allowed to travel to Israel on a Pakistani passport.

I think that happens quite a lot with so-called 'politically incompatible' countries. Apparently it's quite hard to get into the US if you've been to Iran on the same passport, for example.

I suppose you can understand it from a security point of view.

I know of people who have a completely different passport for travel to countries like Iran, Yemen, Afghanistan. If they were to travel to any of these countries on their regular passport, it would be near impossible for them to travel to the US and even in some countries of Europe.

Yeah I've heard of that too.

I didn't even know she was pregnant

Neither did I 😀

Congratulations @James

As for recognising Israel - I believe you're right re Pakistan. Also not sure re UAE.
I know that a few years ago we had (mainly economical) relationship with some of the Gulf states. I'm not sure how things are now.

Taking about Qatar and then moving to congratulations about my impending child as well as international relations all in two pages. This is what's great about SCM.
Thanks for the congrats, chaps. Appreciate it.

My brother has to go to many hotspots for work as as a reporter. Cuban passport gets you into lots of trouble coming to the us, but he does the Middle East, and Israel on the same passport, not sure how.

The antidote to all foreign trouble for him is an Irish passport. It's got him out of tough situations time and time again when people thought he was Irish or British in the Middle East and Africa. It helps to have never invaded anyone it seems! Up the republic!
