I never said the clock had stubs. I'm talking about a stubless clock. Mors and Roger are stubless clocks.

I have defeated you in this battle of wits, you should leave the field with what little honour you have left.
[/quote]

You said the hands had been broken off. If they had been seared off with a laser beam, then perhaps it might be possible to create such a clean cut that there was indeed, no stubs. However, as the arms were broken off, I'm afraid there would inevitably be some sort of stub, even if only visible using an electron microscope. Those stubs, my puny minded friend, would be pointing at the right time on two occasions per day.

I didn't want to take you to school in front of these people. You forced my hand.

These are clock hands. If they're broken off it means the round or square hole is no longer held by the sticky out bit that protrudes through the centre of the clock face and causes the hands to move.

All you've shown us so far is that you know next to nothing about clocks.

With all due respect to Roger, of whom I'm quite fond, and mors, who I dislike enormously, the fact that both have said we're going to win should strike terror into the hearts of all rational Liverpool fans.

Er, I said we were going to win it too.

The circular piece which attaches the hand to the mechanism is not the hand, you horological ignoramus.

Liverpool
Chelsea
Man Utd
Tottenham
Arsenal
Man City

We've got the two best players in the league, which helps.

Mac, you must have got your doctorate in Cheap Digital Watch Studies because the average pigeon, simply by virtue of resting momentarily on the hands of any church or town hall clock, is easily your better when it comes to understanding the rudiments of horological mechanics.

The circular piece is part of the hand.

It is clear.

As you can see from this website, the hole is called the "mounting hole" and is part of the hand.

http://cart.clockparts.com/hourminutehandsunder3-c-23_93.html

Check mate.

The hand, foolish apprentice in the horological arts, is called the hand by virtue of the fact that it is capable of pointing at something. The circular piece clearly cannot point, and therefore cannot be referred to as a hand.

Let me ask you this. If the circular piece was on its own, and mounted (by way of the mounting hole), could it conceivably be understood as a hand? The answer, dear chap, is no. Deprived of any means of pointing it could not fulfill the one criterion so fundamental to a hand. The ability to point. Therefore, the circular piece is the means by which the hand, that part which might indicate a time is mounted. But it cannot be considered the hand in, and of itself.

Your argument would be sophistry if it weren't so clumsy.

Simply put, it is not the ability to point that defines a hand.

You can't see me right now but let me assure me that I'm pointing at my waste paper basket with my foot, and yet my foot is not a hand.

It is also true that if my hands were mangled somehow in a terrible accident and had to be amputated, I could still be put standing with my back to a large clock face and could give passers by an approximation of the time using only my arms. So if pointing is the determining factor in what is and is not a hand, then by your own definition, the arms of a handless man are his hands.

Surely even you can see this is nonsense?

The hand of a clock is the full length of the mobile appendages to the clockface, from the mounting holes all the way to the indicatory apex.

If I had you as an apprentice at the horological academy, why I'd cuff you, and set the other boys to laughing at you with your floundering obtuseness. Don't you see in your sheer dullardry you've made my point for me? Can't you see that whatever appendage is used as a temporal indicator, becomes, in effect, a surrogate hand. Say you had no appendages with which to point, no stumps, no body, just a head, you would be denied the ability to point, to indicate something. You would be like that circular 'mounting circle', in need of an appendage to point with. You would lack a hand.

I'm surprised people think we will definately win it. It will take an incredible amount of luck injuries wise and form wise to win it.

But hey - you're gonna "sit back and enjoy it" anyway, so what does it bother you?

Wonderful entertainment this fine morning from Gene & Doc. However I think Gene shot himself in the foot after having got his head in front. A short head win for Doc.

You gimp.

This is the most open the league has been in at least 20 years, with all the top 4 have a realistic shout and City can't be totally discounted. Obviously injuries (or lack of them hopefully in our case) will play a huge part, as will further signings (unfortunately I can see United adding to their squad significantly and soon) but as thing stand at present I predict.........

1. Liverpool
2. Chelsea
3. United
4. City
5. Arsenal
6. Spurs
