Needed 5 tickets, had to settle for tickets up the top tier in the end - platinum & gold allocation was exhausted in an instant.

Got MCC tickets. Get a meal beforehand and meet the players afterwards.

I think we should put it to the SCM masses. Which one player should I approach with a question chosen by the SCM masses?

Sorry to be a spoilsport for the Aussies and Thais here, but:
Luis Suárez could miss out on Liverpool pre-season tour of Australia

Brendan Rodgers may rest striker ahead of new campaign
Uruguayan to take part in Confederations Cup in Brazil

Andy Hunter
guardian.co.uk, Thursday 18 April 2013 22.30 BST

Liverpool could be without Luis Suárez on their pre-season tour of Australia and Thailand this summer as Brendan Rodgers attempts to avoid burnout in his leading striker.

The Uruguay international has missed only one Premier League game this season, making 43 appearances so far, and will begin preparations for the Confederations Cup once the campaign ends. The eight-team tournament starts in Brazil on 15 June, with the final and third-place play-off on 30 June, leaving Suárez little recuperation time before next season should Uruguay progress.

Liverpool play A-League side Melbourne Victory on 24 July and have a friendly in Bangkok four days later. A third game on the pre-season tour has yet to be confirmed. Suárez could be given four weeks off in the summer, so would miss the tour should it start after the final day of the Confederations Cup.

Rodgers has given the Premier League's leading goalscorer short breaks this season to reduce the risk of fatigue. The manager admits an extended holiday for Suárez is a priority after a campaign in which he carried the Liverpool attack almost single-handed until the arrival of Daniel Sturridge in January.

Rodgers said: "We are finalising all their dates and when they're away. They will need blocks of rest. If Luis is playing in that tournament, he may not be back at the start of pre-season for us because he needs to have a recovery period. There will be an individual pattern for every player. The idea is to get everyone back in the summer as soon as possible to have a real push next year."

Suárez is not the only Liverpool player facing an extended season due to the Confederations Cup in Brazil. Pepe Reina, Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Leiva, Sebastián Coates and Fabio Borini could also be involved in a tournament featuring the hosts plus Spain, Uruguay, Italy, Mexico, Japan, Nigeria and Tahiti.

The Liverpool striker will spend the summer as a transfer target for several leading European clubs but the club's managing director, Ian Ayre, has reiterated that Suárez is not for sale.

Ayre insisted: "To play at the highest level, you need players like Luis and Steven Gerrard on your team. So the last thing in our mind is selling Luis Suárez. He's not for sale. It's not something we're interested in."

Liverpool will hold a minute's silence before Sunday's game against Chelsea in memory of Anne Williams, the Hillsborough campaigner, who died on Thursday, and for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.

Blocks of mourning? I would've thought Anne deserved one on her own.

Billy Hogan, Liverpool's chief commercial officer, outlines the commercial importance of pre-season tours, as the club unveils it's new kit.

Today, we reveal our new home kit for the 2013/14 season. Warrior, our partner adopted the strap line – RISE UP – for next season’s campaign. We, at the club, feel the strap line is very fitting because it describes the process of transformation we are going through at Liverpool Football Club and our goal of continuing to improve both on and off the pitch.

We are very excited about Warrior’s new kit; it is a modern take on the 1983/84 kit worn during the club’s fourth European Cup win in Rome. Warrior has done a tremendous job with the first two home kits. They’ve designed shirts that pay respect to the history and tradition of success at LFC while also incorporating modern design and technology. We are confident the players and fans alike will pull this kit on with pride.

Establishing new partnerships, like our one year old partnership with Warrior, is a key area of growth for us as a business. On the commercial side of the club we are focused on generating increased revenues through various areas of the club, this will ultimately mean that we can invest further on the pitch. We are currently working hard to build a sustainable infrastructure to our core revenue departments, including merchandise, partnerships, digital media, ticketing and hospitality.

As Paul Rogers mentioned in his blog two weeks ago we’ve recently launched a programme to communicate more directly and effectively with the LFC global fan base. This is an important project which is focused on trying to bring the club closer to the LFC family across the globe.

One way we’ve been doing that over the last several years is through our pre-season tour. There is no better way to bring the club closer to the fans than our first team tours. Last month we announced the first three stops of the Liverpool FC Tour 2013 presented by Standard Chartered, Indonesia, Australia and Thailand. Just last week the club made stops in Melbourne, Bangkok and Jakarta to hold press conferences, reaching out to local media and fans, confirming our fixtures against the Indonesian XI, Melbourne Victory and the Thailand national team.

We realise that many LFC fans won’t make it to Anfield to see the first team play so we work very hard to bring the team to as many new markets as possible as well as maintaining close relations with markets we have already visited. We are thrilled to be visiting Australia and Indonesia for the first time this summer and Thailand for the fourth time.

Our tour helps us continue to grow our fan base but also allows us to provide additional benefits to current and new regional partnerships in the region. Great examples would be Honda motorcycles in Thailand and Garuda Indonesia who have been steadily activating their partnerships in the local markets keeping fans connected to the club. During the tour they will ramp up their activity and deliver a number of exciting events. Their activation will continue long after the club leaves the region and this all part of a successful regional partnership.

This month I will have been with the club for a year. In my short time here I have been impressed with the passion and size of our supporter base – whether on Merseyside or in Jakarta, the LFC Family is incredibly passionate about the club. That passion helps fuel all of us who work here, encouraging us to continue to work hard, delivering on the commercial side to help the football side. We are one club with an incredible family of fans and we’re focused on returning Liverpool to a position of constantly competing and winning trophies.

How do you plan to meet the players after, Ryan? Something involved in your ticket purchase or just stalking their hotel room?

So excited.

Stevie, I have a few friends over there who we're away during the ticket sales. If you come across any spares can you keep them in mind for me and i'll get them to contact you. Just putting it out there on the off chance is all.

The guy who's got me tickets is one of the organisers of the event.

If that doesn't work then I'll do your other suggestion.

The Reds, who look set to miss out on European football this season, will face Ajax Cape town in their home city just 48 hours after the last Premier League game of the season
Liverpool have announced they will play a post-season friendly against Ajax Cape Town inSouth Africa, just two days after their final Premier League match of the season.

The Reds host relegated QPR at Anfield on Sunday May 19 on the last day of the season, before jetting off to play in Cape Town just 48 hours later.

The trip will be the club’s first to the country since 1994 since they played in a four-team tournament with Aston Villa, Cape Town Spurs and the Kaiser Chiefs.

“This visit is part of our off-season activity and shows our commitment to bringing the club closer to our fans all over the globe, no matter how far away from Anfield they may live,” said Liverpool chief commercial officer Billy Hogan.

“It will be fantastic for the club to return to South Africa after almost 20 years.”

Liverpool are currently five points behind Everton in the Premier League table following their goalless draw against the Toffees on Sunday and look set to miss out on qualifying for Europe next season.

A game in South Africa two days after the season??? What a load of crap. Who will be 'starring' in that little expedition - Flanagan? The problem with all of these little money spinning gigs is that they can just as easily breed ill will as good will. Last summer we pissed off fans in Canada and Boston by hyping our 'stars' as the main attraction knowing full well most of them wouldn't arrive in time to play any games, and this time we're using Suarez, who probably won't be available, Gerrard, who might be recuperating from a long-planned shoulder op, and several other senior players could be missing too. And apart from making us look amateurish as a commercial entertainment it also serves no great purpose as a pre-season warm-up.

suarez will play

Two issues threaten Liverpool's proposed end-of-season friendly with Ajax Cape Town.

The May 21 friendly at Cape Town Stadium is due to take place within South Africa's PSL season, with League officials understood to be concerned that the match will deflect attention away from the May 25 Nedbank Cup final.

Ajax Cape Town currently stand 14th in the PSL. Should they finish 15th the club will be required to play a relegation play-off on an as-yet unscheduled date. Ajax Cape Town are three points ahead of Chippa United with two fixtures remaining. The regular season finishes on May 18.

Liverpool are set to earn a £1million appearance fee. “It will be fantastic for the club to return to South Africa after almost 20 years," said Liverpool’s chief commercial officer Billy Hogan.

“We know we have a large fan base in South Africa which is rapidly growing, in the last eight months the number of South African fans visiting the club’s website has doubled. This visit is part of our off-season activity and shows our commitment to bringing the club closer to our fans all over the globe, no matter how far away from Anfield they may live.”

Liverpool Football Club recently accepted an invitation from the City of Cape Town to play a fixture against Ajax Cape Town on Tuesday, May 21.

This post-season fixture represented an opportunity for the club to visit supporters in South Africa for the first time in 19 years. Regrettably, the South Africa Premier Soccer League has decided that this match cannot now be played on this date and have subsequently advised Ajax Cape Town that this fixture should be cancelled.

We are hugely disappointed that we are unable to visit and the team cannot play in front of our terrific supporters.

Moreover, we are saddened that we cannot at this time undertake the community and grassroots activities we had planned as part of our visit to South Africa.
