Inanki is an interesting one. Since he signed a 10yr contract 2yrs ago and due to the whole Bilbao born and bred thing, I would imagine he’s considered indespensble so would take some serious cash and he may not fancy move as he probably sees it as more than footy.
Not that I want him but show him the money and he'll jump on that train as fast as anyone else.

Inaki Williams has a younger brother who's meant to be good. His name? Nico Williams.
i was wondering when i heard the commentators keep saying nico williams whenever our left side was attacked.

my first thought was, is neco williams playing on our left? what happened to owen beck? was he replaced by neco williams? had i missed a sub?
then i realized that beck is still our left back and they were referring to a bilbao player. then i thought. wasn't his name inaki williams? why are they mispronouncing him as neco williams?

been watching the second half with question marks.

it happens to be there is another bilbao player named nico williams. thank you.

Interesting that Klopp sees Elliott as part of the midfield 3 rather than the front 3. He really does look like he could become the ideal player we've been crying out for in midfield.

Think Inanki and Bilboa are a bit different and it’s not just down to him based on littls bits I read about him.The Basque affliation means something else and he wouldn’t have signed such a long contract without that consideration I would imagine.

His release clause is not something we can afford especially if if came to that especially where we are currently with investment strategy:

“Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams has signed a nine-year contract with the Spanish club.
Williams, 25, has signed until 2028 and his new deal includes a 135m Euro (£125m) release clause.”

Elliot as the AM in a front three could be inspired. Plays great balls from deep, always looking for a pass, can beat a man in close quarters. However - almost more importantly he can play wide right meaning he can take up that position and give Mo more freedom.

The only negative from this pre season is Robbo's knock, but Tsimikas has been promising and I am less likely to worry seeing him starting on the left against Norwich than I would have been last season. After tonight's friendly is done i'll fire up the pre-match for Norwich and commence my new role as chief pre match thread officer (CPMTO).

I've always though Elliott's long term position would be in midfield. I don't think he has the pace or explosiveness needed to be a goal-scoring wide forward.

Glad that Klopp sees it that way too. My concern of course is that at the moment, he'll look good playing in a midfield which has space. He'll need to get stronger and better in possession to nail that position long-term. Don't think Klopp will trust him in midfield in competitive games at the moment.

It might be flawed logic - but at least against the other promoted teams, we know he has performed against them before. I think he scored against Norwich last season for Blackburn for example. Not saying he'll start first game of the season (although it would be one hell of a statement if he did) but I think there will be games where it shows the right intent - similar to the games we started all of Bobby, Jota, Mane & Mo except doing it with a more natural AM at AM.

Please allow me to join the chorus of optimism over Elliott. He didn't look out of place when he played his first game or two at 16 years of age (apart from that obscenity of a barnet which thankfully he's junked now) and seems to have not only the right ability but also the attitude he's going to need.

Most impressive thing about him is his decision making, he rarely seems to choose the wrong option which is very unusual for such a young player.
Which shows he's ready for the big leagues. That's always what determines if a kid has it or not.
We saw it in Trent, Sterling and Suso.
I'm not too sure about Jones, though.

Money issues aside, is this why we're not in for a midfielder? We know Klopp's big on assessing players in training. Has he looked at Elliott and thought, bloody hell let's get him into the side?

Assuming our first choice midfield is this:

Fabs
Hendo
Thiago

That leaves the following as squaddies:

Keita
Jones
Elliott
Milner

That's not too bad, is it?

Without injuries, that is a great squad of midfielders. I think the gap is if Fabinho can't play DM and we get left having to change shape. In an emergency we can always pull Ox into that three too. I'm content with this group and would rather our focus were on a new attacker.

No, on paper it’s not but if you look at no of games missed through injury last season then it maybe an issue as a collective:
Fab (11)
Hendo (17)
Thiago (21)
Naby (23)
Milner (13)

Soon as we miss both Fab and Hendo then it impacts our whole system.
Really hope we buy just a midfielder and bed in this season slowly to take that pressure off.

I guess it depends on how you choose to look at it.

Glass half full - we'll have less injuries, Keita might finally have a good season and Jones and Elliot will develop nicely.

Glass half empty - we're trying to replace a 50 game a season player who generally gives you a good 7/10 performance with a a sicknote shithouse and two kids.

According to Sky we are playing with 10 men?

One of those kids last season was at one stage our best player, i remember we took him off in two games and the team went to shit. I think Curtis is the best player to hold onto the ball in our team.

Its Kaide Gordon that's missing.. I think.
Yep correct.

Very nice of Klopp to include him from the start, the high hopes he has in him must have some truth to it.

Doesn't turn 17 until October, definitely 1 for the future.

It was never going to be good news, let's not kid ourselves....anyone that watches football would've known it was ankle ligaments the moment it happened.
