A few thoughts:
  • If you take out rushing out for Welbeck's goal, Mign was actually really really good today. I just wish he was sharper mentally - but that issue will never change.
  • I don't think it would have made much of a difference against Leicester but a CB who knows how to play CB will do better than a DM playing CB ... About time Klopp made that change.
  • Matip - solid game.
  • Can - I want to say 'meh' - but he was ok actually. Defended the middle well.
  • Lallana - MoTM for me ... His pressing and energy were so important today.
  • Gini - great way to wrap up the game ... solid game ... it seems when we play well, he plays well ... when we struggle, he's a ghost.
  • Firmino - best game in ages .. a goal and assist. Well done.
  • Coutinho - some really good stuff ... Coming out of his slump.
  • Mane - when he's on, we are fucking good.
  • Special mention to Origi for his play.

Matip was up and down throughout but he's not filling me with confidence ATM. Klaven was the better of the CB's today.

Lallana was breathlessly brilliant throughout. Performances like that explain why Klopp wants to build a team around him. That performance should be played on a loop around the academy.

Firmino's best match since November. That first touch for the first goal gets better and better each time I see it. If the ball goes forward there, the chance has gone. Given the ball was smacked hard across the goal it was sublime and a strong finish, too. Great pick out for Mane's goal also. I know it seems sly given he got a goal and an assist but he didn't threaten otherwise.

Mane was back to his best. I thought we overpaid when we signed him. I'm starting to believe he's worth double the transfer fee. He can drift in and out of games and his basic passing is poor at times, but he's up there with the most dangerous players in world football. Consistently devastating.

I don't attribute too much blame at Mignolet for the goal and thought he had a strong performance otherwise. We overcommitted to the attack, especially with Sanchez on the pitch and we were woefully exposed at the back. It was a cracking finish from Welbeck.

Clyne looked full of confidence and produced the best I've seen in a long time. On the front foot, he got some decent interceptions and attacked them at pace. Questionable final ball throughout though.

Can started better than he finished with some excellent forward passes. We needed him to step up in the second half, to calm the game down, to dictate the play. He isnt capable. I liked his smart foul on Sanchez, but he was lucky to escape a red card at the end. Stupid shit like that could have cost us 2 points.

Matip was good today. Both he and Coutinho are on an upwards curve regarding form.

Ming jumped out to catch the ball & missed when they got caught offside too.

That'll never change, his decision making on crossing is just flawed, simple as that.

We'll have a new keeper next season imo.

I've this bad feeling Klopp sees Karius as our no1 next season. Hope Im wrong like

mane and Lallana were class today.

Lallana when he is on it like that is unplayable, hustling , bursting forward and some brilliant passing , that ball for the 3rd goal on the break ...

In the first half our midfield did to Arsenal's midfield what Leicester did to ours on Monday. Can, Gini and Lallana showed up and competed today.

So long as a time comes at us and the game is stretched we can ruin teams. It is almost like we need variety of players and playing styles to counteract this.....

Just to pick up on a few things you mentioned here .... seems a little petty because everyone played well but :

Klavan played well but often he was holding back permitting Matip to press forward and some of Matip's passing was what sent us on our way in attack on a few occasions. We have missed a CB that is capable of doing that. Matip also controlled Sanchez well for the majority of that second half. I also think Klavan should have anticipated that shot on target from Welbeck, he was actually there in plenty of time then stopped running expecting the cross, 2-3 more paces towards goal and he had both the goal and the forward covered.

Firmino should have had a penalty for the double handed push in the chest, that floored him, by Bellerin. Otherwise I thought the ref. was strong and did quite well.

Clyne is still incapable of running past a defender and mostly of putting in a good cross (1:5/6 attempts is his ratio perhaps).

Milner had a far better outing than last game.

Lallana was insanely good. However as much as I have always supported him despite the weekly attacks from you-know-who and all the rest, we can't build a team around a 29 year old. Despite his Duracell bunny impressions that everyone raves about it's his incredible two footed control that impresses me most - he, like Mane or Firmino in a tight corner, rarely coughs up possession because of their control.

Mane needs to improve his simple short passing - amazing that he can do the difficult stuff with ease but then fucks up the simplest of passes (twice yesterday). One of which led to their goal.

I was about to post this, I don't know how anyone can say he had a good game when his game is just littered with jittery moments and errors. He came out to punch it twice and completely missed it, and he went down too quick and too low for the goal.

Great performance anyway. The defence looked more cohesive and solid with Klavan back, Lallana was exceptional and Mane is just lethal. Origi was brilliant too when he came on, hit the post and set up the goal.

I've watched all 90mins of the game again this morning and fuck me! Lallana was absolute class. He was everywhere. Amazing player. It staggers me the reds lose to shite and yet beat the best. WTF!?

EDIT: - I thought I'd head over to redcafe and get a Utd opinion on it (that and to find out what the general concensus was about Zlatan's elbow) Did you know there is a thread there that is 258 pages long called 'Klopp watch'?! HAHAHAHA WTF! Stupid bellends.

He probably is yeah. Looked like Coutinho is about to find some form aswell which is great.
His touch was back to its best but his shooting is still a bit off.
Promising signs though. Same with Matip.

Its weird that the general feeling seem to be that this season is a bit meh, yet we've only had more points at this stage of the season 4 times since the PL started.

The rollercoaster like results and losing games to Hull, Swansea, Bournemouth, Leicester and Burnley have created that I guess.
Its progress but you still feel some of these defeats are so uneccessary and we could be even better placed in the league if we werent so crazy Jekyll and Hydeish.

11 more points at this stage then last season.

I still dont see Coutinho coming in to form

Shooting still shite, passing still incredible or incompetent

Gini was very good yesterday. He made so many lung bursting runs from deep and was often the most advanced of the midfielders. He needs to shoot better though.

I expect him to find some form soon, but that's not good enough, the way he's just vanished the last two months isn't good enough for a 200k player, injury or not.

Thought he was much better yesterday. As I said earlier, the signs are there that he's about to hit some form.

I thought this would be Coutinho's break out season, but it's just not happened, he's gonna backwards instead of forwards.

Whether it's because he's having to work harder pressing than he used to which is leaving him unable to get into attacking positions as often, or whether it's because there's often not as much movement around him, or maybe a combination of the two, I just don't know.

It looked like his break out season before the injury though. He was excellent.
